There's big money on tomorrow's game!

Every place we gain (or lose) tomorrow earns (or costs) us £2m in Premier League prize money!

We could finish as high as 10th or as low as 15th - so that's up to £10m riding on the game.

On a related note, staying up has earned us at least £84m next year (plus prize money), and something I didn't know before reading this interesting article (below), guaranteed us a 3rd year of parachute payments in the event we get relegated - currently worth £17m. (Clubs that go straight down again only get 2 years).

Good article here in the Guardian today got me thinking about all this:

looks like 15th place (at worst) with 13 live games will earn us around 114 million!!

A point will do them and could help us.

A gentlemen’s agreement then...we won’t kick the shit out of your players before the Euro final and you’ll ease off the gas s bit and allow a thoroughly satisfactory draw, (and we then score the winner in the 96th minute?)!!

Surely we wouldn’t be losing any money regarding the outcome of tomorrow’s match. All that would happen is the higher the placing the more dosh we receive, we in fact would just receive less of a payout if we dropped a place or two that’s all. Win, win, all the way - and the most important bit, of course, is staying in the Premier League.

If West Ham win and we lose the prize money drops c.£2m on current placing prize money. In the scheme of things not a big issue

That's very interesting. And now I find myself stupidly thinking "well £40m isn't that much really", getting desensitised to all that money being chucked about. A couple of £10-15m buys in the summer, wages, and it's pretty much all spoken for. Bloody ridiculous but I suppose, if you're in the game you have to play by its rules.
