I do pop over and read the Sunderland forum a fair bit. They are on the whole very complimentary towards us and especially ex Mag Hughton.

To be fair for a mag Hughton is alright, and done wonders for you lot. Could do with someone similar taking charge of us

Next year is going to be very interesting. So far Hughton has managed to leave us a little higher up each season. We are going to have to go some to continue that trend next time round, as we'll be better scouted by opponents and less of an unknown quantity. However, if our acquisition team keeps up its magnificent work and Hughton maintains his steady approach to integrating new members into the squad then there's plenty of grounds for optimism.

If you can spend money on players like Gross it will be all good. Where do you think you need to strengthen though?

Brighton have done very well this season and Hughton has done a great job however this notion that Brighton have stayed up without spending money is just not true. One of the top 10 spenders in Europe tells a slightly different story than Chris doing it on a shoestring:

CIES Football Observatory net spending club by club (figures in euros):

€343m PSG (€418m spent & €75m incoming)

€189m AC Milan (€250 and €61m)

€186m Man Utd (€197m and €11m)

€173m Man City (€282m and €109m)

€106m Chelsea (€236 and €130m)

€68m Bayern Munich (€102m and €34m)

€62m Marseille (€66m and €4m)

€54m Brighton (€54m and €0)

€51m Liverpool (€105m and €54m)

€48m Huddersfield (€55m and €7m)

2 things:

1. Who exactly said that Brighton haven’t spent? I’ve not heard that.

2. More importantly Brighton’s total squad cost is £60m, including the £50m spent since promotion. Palace’s current squad cost, just one example, is £200m. Your cherry picking of a small period, deliberately sets out to prove a irrelevant argument.

Come back to us when you’ve ranked all 20 current PL squad costs in order, and you will see your point kicked into touch.
