I saw The Cure supporting Siouxsie and the Banshees at the Brighton Centre, Robert Smith was in both bands.
Banshees guitarist dropped out at the beginning of the tour, if I remember correctly.

Yes, John McGeogh, wasn't it?

The smiths musically & lyrically piss all over The Cure.

This is like saying ‘do you like blondes or brunettes?’. I like them both. A lot. And ideally at the same time.

Am looking forward to seeing the cure at Hyde park. Love every era of their music, until 1993. Never the same after boris Williams left.
Hard to top headmaster ritual, there is a light that never goes out or Queen is dead though.

Favourite smiths song? Now that is a tough one. But probably ‘how soon is now’
Favourite cure song - push. Live version.

I lived in Crawley and saw them when they played small local venues and they were amazing. They make me sad nowadays just standing there and going through their greatest hits.

The Phil thornalley days. Was Robert smith Crawley born and bred ?

Best song from The Cure, or my favourite anyway - A Forest.

When i was a student many moons ago A Forest always seemed to be on the Student Union juke box - along with Bad Day by Carmel. The Cure are a very fine band indeed - the Faith and Pornography albums are still wonderful although the Love Cats single is awful

Love The Smiths, and many Cure songs.

What's incredible is how young Marr and The Cure members were when they already writing great songs - in their late teens. All without classical/stage school/record company backgrounds. Just naturally talented kids, creating with mates at home.

Used to play football with Robert Smith for Sussex schools. Good little winger before he went all mascara and big hair.

The Cure are well up there in answer to the OP. But I’m not sure they were trailblazing. They were one of a real load of great indie bands.

Quite.

79-81 we had:

Comsat Angels
Dead or Alive
The Sound
U2
Come in Tokio
The Chameleons
Echo and the Bunnymen
The Danse Society
TV21
Japan
Siouxie and the Banshees

To name but a few - all cracking bands.

:lolol:
God no! They were ok but nothing special.

Back on track with RS, The Glove did a couple of decent songs (Punish Me With Kisses and Like An Animal).

Cracking album - on blue vinyl

I saw The Danse Society down the Regent in West Street, and still have their album in vinyl. A couple of outstanding tracks on there.
