This is a dreadful decision, and hopefully one that gets swiftly reversed.

Sorry, does anyone really think that @Ernest cares more about the Windrush people than sticking it to the Tories?

You're more stupid than he is, if so.

Regardless of his motives (and I think he's allowed to care about both?) this affair really does cast the present government, and its leader, in an especially shitty light.
The above post is simply my opinion. I am not bullying you, should it differ from your own.

Entirely relevant to pointing out the hypocrisy of the OP which is a fact and you seem keen to ignore. Why?
Well, when Jeremy Corbyn's administration arbitrarily and mistakenly deports people on the back this policy, I am sure he'll hammer that one home. Let's wait and see.

A little more detail about the Home Office and how the new legislation caught people out.

Changes to the immigration system from 2012 onwards clamped down on people living in the UK illegally, introducing new checks by employers, landlords and the NHS.

And some people who arrived legally decades ago are being caught out by these checks, when they try to rent a house or get medical treatment, because they aren't able to prove their status.

That's because the Home Office didn't keep records of those it granted indefinite leave to remain in the 1970s, and not everyone went on to apply to become British citizens.

To prove they are living in the country legally, people in this situation must currently apply for No Time Limit (NTL) status at a cost of £229.

They must provide documentation for every year they have been in the country, which can include payslips, bank statements and educational or medical records.

The Home Office says more informal testimonies will do. But a legal charity, the Joint Council for Welfare of Immigrants, says that in practice many are having their applications rejected if they are not able to provide up to four pieces of formal documentation for each year.

I only keep bank statements, P60s etc for 10 years. How would anyone be expected to keep them for 50 years.

Kicking off live in the commons now.
Rudd getting it from all sides.
Seems it's commonwealth going back a long time.
The pathetic Rudd trying to wriggle off the hook.
I hope MP's and media drive the nail home on this one.
Rudd " We really value the Windrush generation, we will really look after them, I am sorry some have had troubles with health issues".
This is going well beyond Windrush MP's standing up with all sorts of stories from constituents from Commonwealth countries.

      Yep definitely stupid.

We all know what his motives are.

Unlike some, I don't start from a position of "Tories, and particularly Theresa May, are evil baby-eaters". I'm not sure I've seen anything presented on this story yet that clearly indicates an explicit desire for the current government to enforce wholesale deportation on people who, to all intents and purposes, are as British as many of us and deserve the same access to all this country has to offer as I do. As useless as Theresa May so clearly is on many levels, I don't believe that is her intent here.

Even as I type this, @Thunder Bolt has posted something which suggests this looks like badly-implemented legislation being imposed without the care and sensitivity it so clearly requires.

Given the publicity that is now surrounding this story, hopefully this will be addressed in the very near future and those suffering distress are able to move on with their lives in this country.

      You'll have a long wait.

What were the OP's views on allegations of sexual misconduct/assaults/rape in the Labour party and antisemitism in the Labour party? Feel free to quote all the condemnation.
