I've used the rat poison blocks available from Wilkinson's - always done the job for me.

We have got a cat but think she must be scared of rats. Only chases birds out of the garden and shouts at squirrels!!!

I used one of these when I saw a rat a couple of years ago. The poison block was eaten but still saw rat. Think a field mouse or similar ate the block!!!
