Online football site www.FootballTips.com conducted a survey, asking supporters of all the top flight clubs who they would like to see relegated come the end of the season.

And unfortunately for Roy Hodgson, Crystal Palace came out on top, earning 23 per cent of the vote.

The survey quizzed more than 4,000 UK-based football fans and asked them of the 13 teams that could still be relegated, which team they would most like to see go down.

The stats behind the research are more interesting, as it seems that Seagulls supporters hate Crystal Palace more then the Eagles hate the Seagulls. A case of jealousy at the number of years they have spent in the Premier League perhaps?

Of the people surveyed who wanted Palace to slip through the trap door, a whopping 44 per cent were Brighton fans. On the contrary, of the 14 per cent who stated they’d like to see Brighton relegated, only one in five (19 per cent) were Crystal Palace fans.

Who would supporters most like to see relegated?

1. Crystal Palace – 23%

2. West Brom – 19%

3. Brighton – 14%

4. Everton – 10%

5. Swansea – 8%

6. Newcastle – 5%

7. Leicester City – 5%

8. Watford – 4%

9. West Ham – 4%

10. Bournemouth – 3%

I would like us to finish above Newcastle and Huddersfield. I don't care if they are relegated or not, just that we finish above them.

Some folk might want Southampton to go down because they can't forgive the events of 40 years ago...

That match against Tottenham Hotspur is the stuff of folklore to the point I did a bit of research and came to the conclusion that there is no evidence of collusion.

Southampton needed a win to secure the title and, with 15 minutes or so to go (and rumours of no interest from either team) would have been foolish not to attempt to try and score given that they had +6 over the Albion.

If there was a reason why they were reluctant it was a good one. Like a few games before the Tottenham fans were causing mayhem and the atmosphere was toxic. A goal for Southampton may have sent it over the edge.

If only one in five were Palace fans, that leaves a sizeable number of others who want to see us go down. Why?

Rubbish. Burtenshaw and McMenmy walking arm in arm, with Burtenshaw swinging a white cane, around the pitch before the game. Hardly the thing to do if Southampton were about to attempt to beat them.

No evidence. Apparently there was a hand shake.

This goes back to the 'toxic atmosphere' theory.

Unless, of course, there is footage to prove otherwise.

Southampton fan quote:

'Was also there. No fix but there was a real fear the Spurs fans would invade the pitch to get the match abandoned if we scored. The managers came out to together to try and calm it down as the Spurs fans were breaking down the fences and using the poles as spears. I thought Funnell hit the bar; as he came from Eastbourne I doubt he missed on purpose. Would have been good to win and go up as Champions and put one over Spurs at the same time'

Daily Express report:

'The managers Burkinshaw and Lawrie McMenemy came out and shook hands. Alan Ball kissed his Player of the Year trophy, but nothing could quell the fury of the occasion'

Also:

'Peter Taylor tried to win a penalty with a spectacular dive when Glen Hoddle (put him through)' Was Taylor not aware of the plan ?

The rest of the list.

11. Huddersfield – 3%

12. Stoke – 2%

13. Southampton – 0%

4,000 fans approx 200 Brighton and 200 Bornemouth and virtually none opted for Southampton?

Zero? Given how egotistical their fans are shit really doesn't stick to these teflon coated clowns.:nono:

The results of that survey seem highly suspect. 0% for Saints? What a load of nonsense.

Tomorrow, 4000 fans will want to see someone else relegated.

Anyway, we all know the answer should be...

Palace
Man Utd
Chelsea

I would of thought the vast majority who voted for Brighton would be fans of teams that have been beaten by " FFS Brighton , how could we possibly lose to Brighton "

This is sort of what I had always thought..a lot of Palace fans are a bit "Meh" about the Brighton rivalry. One of the reasons is that a lot of Palace fans are living in North Sussex and a have a few mates who support Brighton and the second point is the rivalry was Mullery V Allison more than Palace V BHA. And the fact we have hardly played each other in the last 35 years !
