I don't get it, would you have preferred the school resource officer to have been prohibited from carrying a firearm?

Surely then the gunman would have been able to kill countless people before he was stopped, instead he was the only fatality. Surely that's a good thing?

Just imagine what would happen if there was a tighter gun law and no one had a gun, more guns is not the answer

Do you think Rotherham and Telford would of happened if the local populace was well armed?

Of course it doesn't make it Ok, it just makes a law banning something not actually that useful (as a method of prevention) when it comes to people who are willing to break the law.

Try obtaining a gun in the UK. You could probably get one, but it would be difficult and expensive. So you'd have to have a lot of pre-planning and motivation to do it. There would be no mental breakdown moment, as it would take weeks probably months to sort out.

In the US, a young kid can have a bit of a mental breakdown, and in a completely rash moment without rational thought, grab a load of guns and ammo from the garage, and in less than an hour be shooting other kids at their school.

There is a stark difference.

Just a couple of points, apologies if they've been made before.

1. Always check the stats concerning gun deaths in the US. They can often include suicides involving guns, the pro-gun folk tend to omit these as it lowers the figure. Those who are more anti-gun include them.

2. Would be keen to know what the gunman was armed with. One of the criticisms of arming teachers in the US was that at best they'd have a handgun and most of the time school shooters are armed with shotguns and rifles.

3. Some schools have folk who are armed. You might argue that this would deter a shooter, but the counter is that most school shooters don't intend surviving so chances are they'll take out the armed and known quantity first (and probably nick their gun).

4. In the event of a shoot-out the last thing you want to be is holding a gun when a SWAT team come into the building.

You wouldn't want to be the first armed member of staff that kills an innocent bystander either. It's not like the movies, bullets can go straight through multiple bodies, dry lining partitions etc.

I dont. Apart from the obvious that people are less likely to mess with a well armed community a collapsing civilisation that signals surrender is more likely to attract predatory cultures.
Like walking down the falls road during the troubles with a union jack t-shirt on.

Did more guns make it safer to walk the Falls Road?
