I would have thought that technically Turkey have no right to step foot in Syria without sovereign government or UN approval. Afrin should only be a concern for Assad and the Kurds.

Absolutely. Personally I make a very clear distinction between what I believe to be broadly 'humanist' ideologies (Socialism, Anarchism, Democratic Nationalism), and those who fight in support of them, and abhorrent 'anti-humanist' or extremest ideologies such as Fundamentalist Islamism and Fascism.
