I think we are now good enough to stay up but the problem is it has maybe taken too long to get to this point and we’re fast running out of eminently winnable games. The fact our run in is so dire means it’s quite feasible we finish below teams we are now better than...

Great post. Our confidence and much improved squad has come after most of the winnable games had come and gone.

It’s in the balance. I can see strong cases for we’re in deep trouble because of the above, or the new improved Albion starts beating rated teams too.

40 points, we stay up; a bit less than 40 points, we probably stay up; a bit less than that, we probably don't.

Next question?

This weekend results have upped the points needed to 39, entirely down to WBA losing. Other results expected.

Now, it very well could be 41 or more, or 38 going into the last game needing a win for safety.
Come on Spurs!

I’m tempted to put £10 on each of Bournemouth, Watford and Everton to get relegated at odds of 33/1, 40/1 and 80/1 respectively.

Still reckon it is 38, but there are just glimmers appearing now that it will be less.

Southampton v Stoke on Saturday will have an impact on the target - a draw would be best.

Interesting, I thought it might be 36 but after Hudders beat West Brom yesterday I'm thinking it might be higher ... 38 is the number I've got

Yes, and it is annoying when looking at the table that Liverpool and Arsenal lost to Swansea.

If the poor version of Arsenal turn up next Sunday - and we get a wonderful result - then that would be a massive boost to us, and we'd nearly be there.

I still think Swansea are doomed and it could be that there's just no 3rd basket case which I've variously thought could be Newcastle, Hudders and Stoke. If we beat Ars, which I think is a real possibility (especially if Citeh nail them on Thursday) then we would be all but over the line maybe

I sat down and worked out the remaining fixtures on the basis that everyone from Watford down is involved in the staying-up battle. I gave no point for games against the big six. I gave one point for any game against Burnley, Everton & Leicester. All the rest are 'six-pointers' and I classed them all as home wins. I ended up with:

46 - Watford
44 - Everton
43 - Bournemouth
40 - Huddersfield
40 - Newcastle
38 - Southampton
37 - Brighton
37 - Swansea
36 - West Ham
34 - Palace
31 - Stoke
25 - West Brom

Which was quite pleasing. Therefore 35.

The Southampton-Stoke draw probably reduces our target by 1 point.

In light of this I now reckon our target for safety is 37 points - 2 more wins and wonderful if they are Arsenal and Everton.

Then beat Udders and we can push for Europe
