38 to avoid the last day frights or maybe even with them. 36 or 37 may turn out to be OK but that will leave us waiting on other results.

4 pts ahead of last season http://www.worldfootball.net/schedule/eng-premier-league-2016-2017-spieltag/27/

Last season it was 35 for safety. Plus 4 = 39.

PREDICTOR
http://www.worldfootball.net/table_calculator/eng-premier-league/
I urge you to give the predictor a go, takes about 15 mins. Be honest about it and give the lowly teams the benefit of a win here or there. I was surprised that 36 points had us 13th
Has anyone done the predictor with albion losing or drawing with Swansea, and still staying up ?

Yes - I had us drawing with Swansea and beating Hudds and (I think Leicester). We ended up on 38 points and 15th. I did put an awful lot of draws for most of the bottom half though. Bottom three were Soton, WBA and Stoke. Weirdly Bournemouth finished 8th - so take from that what you will. :flypig:

Swansea - 1 will not be the banker most seem to think
ARSE - 1 they will snatch a 88th minute equaliser from a free kick
Everton - 3 a very welcome suprise win
man City - 0 coff
Leicester - 3 a scrappy 1 nil off Muzzas windpipe
Huddersfield - 1 FFS all over them and kojak smashes one home from a corner
Palace - 0 Wilf comes to the party and dives his way into the refs good books
Spuds - 0 needs must and we go all out defense but concede a 90th minute gutter
Burnley - 3 by now Burnley will be in the pack with us and we smash them
ManUre - 3 Possibly the best team performance of the season see us grab all 3 points much to Mersons front teeth suprise
Liverpool - 0 we lose 5-0 but who gives a shit we're already safe

It doesn't mean anything but as far as I can tell the last team which was in 14th position after 27 games in the Premier League, and ended relegated at the end of the season was Norwich in the 2013/14 season.

Interestingly their total number of points at that stage was also 28, and their manager at the time was.... er I forget....

The only difference was that the bottom of the table was, if anything, slightly more compressed than the current one and the gap between 14th and 20th was only 7 points rather than 8

We'll probably lose the last game. Either Stoke or Swansea would overtake us. Even if Huddersfield lose, all it takes is for Palace to let West Brom win, and we're down. Let's hope you're wrong.

It's diabolical

Even worse is with both Swansea and Huddersfield winning and WBA winning with 10 minutes to go at Anfield.

For what it is worth, (zilch), here is my attempt.

I must warn you all however, I am awful at predicting football scores. I am also incredibly biased.

It would be great, although I don’t know how palace survived, I’m sure I had them losing every week!

EDIT. I now know how they survived!

Will Huddersfield be able to claim points from their home match with Man. Utd? That extra match they have could be crucial.................

..................fortunately it's in the Cup.

Looking at the fixtures, we really could do with West Ham and Watford staying in the mix 'till the end. Their respective last few are as tricky as ours.

God I really think we're gonna need to be 3 points clear going into that last day (with a decent goal difference) to have a chance of survival.

I much prefer the fishy predictor as it's not about exact scores.

https://thefishy.co.uk/football-calculator.php

I make us get 34, 35 or 37 points depending on the game v Swansea.

Only a win and 37 points keeps us up - and there is no margin for error even then.

38 points currently the target.

Fishy is also good because you can do only the Brighton games, and 'the computer' does the rest.

The Palace game looks more important than currently apparent, along with those v Swansea and Huddersfield of course.

By the way, with no user input, 'the computer' reckons we finish 11th with 44 points - and Palace go down. It's a genius.

Seeing how well the relegation scrappers are perfomring of late, I have changed my mind now and think that 37 will be the magic survival number.

Just about to watch Southampton get 3 points here to cap a miserable sunday for us.........Come on Liverpool!!!

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/43049564

"Gracenote says that taking averages over five-year periods, the points needed for Premier League survival has dropped from 37 in 1996-2000, to 35 points now."

Beat Swansea and Arsenal at home and get a point away at Everton and we can apparently take the rest of the season off. Mmmm.

Just had a go on Fishy myself... it's bonkers! I had us on 36 points, which was enough to finish 15th. Palace go down, only picking up 5 points between now and the end of the season. Chelsea finish second, picking up another 29 points from their remaining 11 games - almost catching Man City who only get another 15 :lolol:

This is how the fishy computer predicted all results including ours and has us in tenth and palace bottom!
I like it.

Hove (actually)
I said before Burnley that we needed 5 wins and 5 draws - so 37 pts in total. However, the collapse in form of Chelsea, Burnley and Watford plus Arsenal’s awful away form has seen more points acquired by bottom half teams than one might have expected. Plus us taking a couple of hammerings has lessened the security blanket of superior GD that we once looked to hold.
So I fear the required total is probably more than 37, and unless we get an away win from somewhere and take points from at least one of Arsenal, Spurs and Utd at home, I can’t see us getting there....throwing away great opportunities to win 6-pointers at Saints and at Stoke may well prove fatal.

I am a pessimist and a curmudgeon though - so just ignore me πŸ˜„
