UPDATE: I’m now 9 clues (letters) in.
The latest one has me stumped.

I was going to say Guam (Gum) but I'm not sure it's a country, I think it's a protectorate of the U.S.A like Peurto Rico. Luckily the removed letter is A so even though I got it wrong with the country I got the letter right. Go me.
