Really interesting post

Scary amount conceded from.corners. bong and Bruno can't seem to defend them so must surely be dropped. Would be fascinating to analyse each corner conceded and work out if an individual is to blame. I thought the club employed people to do this analysis ffs

After the Bournemouth game Steve Cook said they had noticed something in our defending corners and had setup to exploit it, and it worked.

Here is what he said, "we had a presentation before the game and they have conceded a few. When you get good delivery in the box it’s anyone’s game if you attack it.”

This is a quote from Chris Hughton, not from today but after the Huddersfield match on 9th December.

"What you don't want to do is concede from a corner. That changes things. That's a real disappointment and, at this moment, a problem.
"It's about people doing their jobs, people working as hard as they can on the training pitch. Setting yourself up right. We will never not be prepared - every club is.
"That's why some go from marking man-to-man to zonal, because they go through a bad period. But ultimately you've got to make sure you defend better."

Since Chris gave that quote we have conceded 8 goals in the league, 5 of those are from corners, 1 was from a free kick crossed into the box and only 2 came from open play.

In the entire history of Premier league football, teams concede a goal from a corner once every 10 games on average. We have conceded 11 in 23. That's 1 goal conceded from a corner every 2 games on average.

Embarrassing.

If Chris doesn't sort this out it will be the cause of our relegation.

Absolutely this. It is completely embarrassing. Why does he persist with every player back in the box (plus no-one on the posts!)? Watch the 2nd Bournemouth goal - it was mainly caused by too many players in the way and not allowing our better headerers to get a run and win a 1-1 duel. Yet CH persists with the same method?! Embarrassing. Stop telling your players to do their job Hughton and do you own. Leave AK or IZ upfront for a start at corners for a start.

As has been said: "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results."

Our defending from set pieces is now looking very amateurish, almost schoolboyish, surely they was practice , and who e er is in charge of the practice needs to be replaced

Plenty of people will agree with that (at least three have already on this thread!) For Hughton, though (as has been pointed out before by NooBHA), this is a line in the sand he will not cross. We'll just have to come up with other ideas (unless you want to sack the manager, which I for one certainly don't).

I love Hughton but if he persists with the same failing approach then I'd rather he wasn't in charge (felt horrible writing that). To think we could have had 6 years in the championship and go down because we can't defend corners!

There has been a clamour on NSC for the posts to be covered at corners. Both goals today went in over Knocky's head at the back post. For the first he deliberately covered the post, and for the second he arrived there at the same time as the ball.

We need a taller winger!!

What's needed is a few more threads on exactly the same subject.

And a poll. You're forgetting the all important poll.

Schoolboy error!
