.....and therein lies the problem: can’t have a proper debate on the NHS without it being politicised. I would have thought most of the population and NHS employees would welcome the removal of political point scoring from this debate and instead focus combined energies on solutions. Yes that’s probably a naive statement because it would require politicians to put the interests of UK citizens before the interests of their political parties. It would also require policies to be designed for the longer term benefit of the population rather than for short term populism with nothing more than the next election in mind.

Spot on . . .sadly.

Sensible reasoned debate?

You can always tell when MoS rolls in from Spoons :D

In an ideal world, we would have a Royal Commission/review to formulate a long-term healthcare strategy looking at all the major issues. Made up of people with relevant expertise and a cross-party approach. Instead, we have elements on the left who will chase every ambulance, talk of perpetual crisis/ privatisation and some on the right who want to see it dismantled. People trying to politically weaponise the NHS should be kept as far away from the debate/decision making as possible.

Interesting item on Newsnight during the week which showed Scotlands A&E missing waiting targets by a bigger margin than England despite them spending significantly more per patient and supposedly having a more joined up Healthcare - social care system. More money would obviously help but only if spent in the right areas.
