I went to their shows in Worthing, the first was ‘87 on the Rock ‘n Roll tour, possibly the loudest show anyone has ever been to, anywhere! Then 2 shows in ‘89 with no album to promote, including the legendary ‘Merry Barsteward Xmas’ show in December. Sadly all after Eddie had left the band.

Gigs nowadays just seem so quiet compared to those in the early 80s. Motorhead and Hawkwind especially. Maybe it's just my hearing. Another loss making me feel old, nearly 40 years since I first saw them. They are the only band I ever had autographs from, I felt so naff asking for them that a friend got them for me in the bar at the Lyceum.

Totally amazing. I am somewhat envious as IF is my favourite MH album and would've loved to hear it live. Thanks to YouTube and people good enough to upload it there are recordings from that tour taken directly from the soundboard. Good quality [emoji106]

I was blown away, no Bomber rig sadly as they had a massive fist with spotlights on the end of the fingers. Was an impressionable 14 year old at the time. Also fondly remember Tank who were touring Filth Hounds of Hades at the time.

Motorhead were a band that transcended the genre of rock and roll and were elevated into popular culture without sacrificing one ounce of integrity. Fast Eddie's passing has sadly brought an end to one of the greatest chapters in British music history.

Can't argue with any of that closing statement. Pure uncompromising Rock'n'Roll. Batted away being labelled as 'heavy metal' from day one.

You know what I know I saw Motorhead twice in Worthing, both in the mid to late 80's, are you sure they didn't come down on the Bomber tour?

I was at both of those too. There's no mention of Worthing on the original Bomber tour dates but it may have been an unscheduled stop perhaps between Ipswich and Bournemouth?

The Worthing dates were 87 and 89, not as early as Bomber. I know they played an earlier date in ‘77 in Brighton. Perhaps it was a guest appearance at a Hawkwind show in Worthing?

I never missed a tour from 83 onwards, it was amazing to find them playing in Worthing on the Rock and Roll tour, and being local to Worthing I don’t think I would have missed an advertised show in Worthing on the Bomber tour.

Also nothing on the official website tour logs for ‘79 & ‘80.

...enough of this silliness, yep 87 & 89 rings true judging by the people I went with.


For the '87 show my friends Dad collected us, waiting in the carpark round the corner.
Unsurprisingly his first words to us were:-
'I could hear everything sat here!'.

Even less surprisingly we replied:-

'wot?'
