Just far enough away from LDC
 I'll suggest that. I know they're a decent club, played their under 10s last season, good close game and their coach was a really nice guy. Can't believe I didn't think of them!

Again worth a suggestion. Do you train at Hove Park? When we've played HPC it used to be at Hove Park but has been at council pitches in the older groups.

I'll find out - again cheers (suspect it's year 4 but I'll double check).

If he is yr 4 then if he doesnt find one nearer i would be more than happy to have him train with us. We currently have 13 players registered for tge league side which at 7 a side does mean that we are probably at the limit but if he wants to train and have fun and see what he thinks then happy to have him come along.

Not exactly helpful for this situation but West Hove Dynamos do a Saturday morning drop in session in Wish Park which sounds ideal apart from the location. If the players are any good they get asked to train with the teams and then get to join the team proper.
Trials at U9 level? Blimey..

U7 & U8 level even! Most clubs have too many kids wanting to play but only so many places in a team. Lot of clubs end up with 2 teams in each age level due to sheer numbers of kids but that can only be done before season starts really. Sadly then teenage years hit which leads to most kids staying home to play Fifa and Snapchat each other instead.

Evening NSC.

A favour please. We took a young lad aged 9 and his Dad who escaped the war in Syria to the Bournemouth game yesterday, their first big football match ever. The boy is football crazy and although he started the day saying Man Utd was his favourite team I'm pretty sure we converted him by the end.

He wants to play the game at a club but not start off that seriously, just train and see how he gets on. He's a very bright and friendly lad but understandably nervous and we think easing in gently would suit better than having to have a playing trial and play league every week.

Are there any teams or clubs that would offer this to a kid of that age based near Central or East Brighton? They live in Queens Park and probably wouldn't want to start off travelling too far. My son's club is in Southwick and we accommodate exactly this sort of player but, as a location guide, they'd prefer nearer their home. Doesn't have to be a league team at all - just a regular meet up to play and socialise.

I know the local teams fairly well and I'm pretty sure at my son's age many are oversubscribed and you have to try out. I'm just not sure if that's the case at under 9s or if there's something more akin to an after school or weekend club going on.

Any help greatly received

I've known a few of the guys from Patcham who've run youth teams and see them regularly in the East Stand on match days. As you know, it can vary coach to coach, age group to age group in some clubs, with some having an inclusive approach to giving everyone a go, to others only selecting the better players. For example I wouldn't say West Hove Dynamos as although they do a drop in, they're really not interested in anyone accept the players they can pick for their teams, so the other kids don't really get a go at being included.

I'd also say I've always found Woodingdean a nice club to visit with their tea hut on match days, and my limited experience of sides playing them has been good, although perhaps a bit too far East. Withdean is another club perhaps to consider, they've grown pretty big and train at Dorothy Stringer, again, always found them a nice team to visit and have done with different age groups and my daughter's girls team.
