Profitability and Sustainability Rules

The Football Leagues new Profitability and Sustainability rules came into effect for the first time in the 16-17 season, replacing the old Financial Fair Play rules.

This brings the Football League more in line with the Premier League’s rules and Clubs are now assessed over a three year period. Allowable losses are increased to £13m per annum in the Football League and £35m per annum in the Premier League.

The Clubs calculation was based on the three year period ending 30 June 2017. The League requires the calculation to be submitted in March 2017 and so the Clubs reporting included actual results for the year ended 30 June 2015 and 30 June 2016 and a forecast result for the year ending 30 June 2017.

The forecast for June 2017 assumed continued participation in the Championship and therefore excluded the £9.1m promotion payments.

The earnings before tax are adjusted for depreciation and other allowable expenditure such as the Clubs Category 1 academy and girls and women’s expenditure.

This meant that over the three year reporting period our adjusted earnings before tax was within the League’s £39m threshold.

We are truly blessed to have Tony. But one day he will want to recoup and will sell out , probably to some Chinese consortium. May be it many years away

Every sentence Tony Bloom has ever uttered about his investment in the Albion is along the lines of it being a labour of love, that he never expects to recoup his money and that he wants his children to follow in his footsteps as guardians of the club. Bobby Zamora says that it was Darren Bloom who was the one who persuaded him to re-sign for us, the Blooms are as much wedded to Brighton, emotionally. as the rest of us.

Unlike most club owners, Tony, his brother Darren and all the family are lifelong Brighton fans. From what I understand from friends in the City and from other sources, he's an extremely wealthy bloke, he's got plans for a £250m development by the airport which he's providing 100% of the funds. I heard through the grapevine that the Albion board gave him the opportunity at the beginning of the season to recoup some of his investment but he flatly turned it down. They say that the only constants in a football club are us, the fans. Tony Bloom has always said that he's a Brighton fan, first and foremost. He's in it for the long haul.

He's a multi billionaire

The highest paid director received remuneration of 1.2 million pounds which includes promotion benefits, personal performance and long term loyalty to the club.

Martin Perry or Paul Barber? Or both?

Paul Barber was head hunted by Liverpool, so got more wages to stay with us.

At Championship level without the bonus, PB's salary was £578,000 plus £40,000 paid to his pension scheme.

Worth it IMO. A great duo with TB.

God has smiled on the Albion and Tony Bloom is Jesus.

Make no mistake - Tony took a MASSIVE gamble in 2016/17, how would we have come back from a £40mill loss and no promotion? Take a bow The Lizard, we owe you so much.

Also, it's worth pointing out that the majority of Barber's salary is made up of bonuses. The person who sets the targets to be met would be Tony Bloom so clearly TB thinks Barber is good value for money. You'd have to be the most stubborn of people not to realise that Barber is very good at his job and that the extra effort and attention he regularly puts in when for instance long-time fans have passed away shows that it's not just a job. Compare and contrast with Ken Brown.

Wow we are so lucky to have him as a our chairman, such generosity. Maybe and extra loud version of Tony Bloom’s Blue and white army tomorrow, ringing around the amex.

Let’s hope that turns out to be the case, that we are one of the few clubs that remains in a real fans hands. Would love it to be

You offer a lower league side a carrot and not expect them to buy a combine harvester to grab it?
