Their latest album is decent, but they're leaning heavily on OneRepublic hitmaker Ryan Tedder for the hooks and melodies. It's not really them anymore.

First time I saw U2 was at the old Marquee Club in Wardour Street. They can't have been long off the boat, maybe 'Boy' hadn't even been released, but they were massive NME darlings already. Went with me bruv, who taped the whole show on a mini cassette recorder, as was our practice at the time. No sooner had we left the building than he promptly got mugged for aforementioned mini cassette recorder. Sake!

The Marquee..........oh the days!

Joshua Tree and The Unforgettable Fire are great and the Red Rocks concert video is incredible. But then for me it tails off badly and as per many posts it has a log to do with Bono being a complete dick. Always remember an interview with him banging on about the political basis of the track Bullet The Blue Sky and that's why people liked it. My overriding thought was his assumption that we all need that depth to appreciate the track but the reality is that many people think it has a cracking guitar riff. Simple as!

I first saw U2 at the Top Rank, but in 1983, fantastic gig.

BBC show great, but couldn't abide the stand up and sit down routine.
More like a music tour for a care home!

Who saw them at Jenkinson's in 1981? Support was the Comsat Angels as I recall. Saw the reunion gig in Sheffield a few years back (Comsats I mean). As Mark Kermode has said on several occasions, the Comsats were the better band.

I saw them at Portsmouth Locarno on the same 1981 tour.
