as Sam Allardyce has done at Everton.....

Sam Allardyce has cancelled Everton’s Christmas party after telling his players their form this season is no cause for celebration. Everton are unbeaten in three matches in all competitions under their new manager, four in total, with the sense of crisis that preceded his appointment eased by a rise to 10th in the Premier League.

The manager believes Everton have turned things around before Wednesday night’s visit to Newcastle United, a former employer of his, but with six points separating the team from the relegation zone, and having been knocked out of the Europa League at the group stage, Allardyce believes a Christmas party would be an unwarranted and unwelcome distraction from a demanding festive programme.

The players’ night out, scheduled to take place after Monday’s home game against Swansea City, has been postponed as a consequence. “It is not needed at the moment and because of the position we were in when I first arrived here,” Allardyce said.

“I told the players I will pay them back when they come out of Christmas and into January in a better position. They can go and socialise at the right time. As a manager it was very important that the players, in today’s environment with social media, were not seen to be out enjoying themselves too much.

Why would he cancel their party? What have our players done to warrant that? They played their way into the Premier league this year. Jesus wept, people really do focus on some bullshit.

I agree, I see no reason to cancel our players party, although l don't think that the suggestion is bull****. The big difference between Everton and ourselves, is that their players have undoubtadly underperformed, whilst ours most certainly haven't. I also feel that letting our players let their hair down for one evening could be a good thing, amongst a very testing period on the pitch.

No, would probably disrupt dressing room harmony and as Middlesbrough showed last season, the wheels come off when the dressing room becomes fractured

When exactly would the Christmas party be? Fixtures-wise this is rather a busy period, and, well, you know, our lads do have a bit of history when it comes to not letting an important fixture get in the way of a good old knees up. Just saying.

I wish people would get off the players backs. Of course the players Christmas party should not be cancelled.

2017 has been one of the greatest years our club has ever had. Promotion to the Premier League and great football along the way. We have just lost to Man Utd and Liverpool and had an very poor performance at Huddersfield. This is no reason to cancel the Christmas party.

I say let the players have a party, because they have a lot to celebrate.

I personally have earmarked 18 games I see as winnable and as long as we win 10 of those we will be fine.

considering we were tipped by almost every pundit and bookie to be relegated we have given a very good account of ourselves and despite 1 or 2 performances have done ourselves proud. They deserve it more this year than last as far as I am concerned

One of the amusing highlights of any sporting year is seeing how players of various clubs manage to make complete dicks of themselves at their xmas parties. A bit like any office xmas party really. Long may that proud tradition continue! :xmas:

It should be the highlight of the year, now that they have secured a load of indoor fireworks courtesy of the Palace Ultras

As a slight aside from this, Sir Clive Woodward has an interesting take on football team bonding.

The traditional treat for a win is a day off, while lose and expect extra training.

He believes that ought to be swapped, as it would maintain the positive momentum.
Whereas dragging a bunch of sorry arsed losers straight back to the scene of the crime, is the last thing you should do to make things 'better..
