I think the trendy modern term for a sports person is Athlete, if the general consensus is the team look tired then words fail me, apart from the money they earn they train at one of the top 5 training accadamys in the Uk, and only last week it was being discussed that Premier League footballers not involved in Europe actually have more recovery time than any other league in England.

If they tired then as far as I’m concerned they can go do one!!! I work 60 hs a week for less than 30k, good job I don’t get tired!!!!

Not seen the match or read much about it as we were visiting my mum...whose comment was " did we beat you today". Lol

Was it as bad as the game last season where we were so outplayed it was embarrassing?

I do hope we can turn this around as it was obvious that all the hype surrounding our reasonable start was a tad over the top, and it was obvious that teams would start getting their act together, like West Ham and unfortunately palace. I said that this was not a must win game, but a must not lose game...if we get anything from spurs that will be a bonus, but Sen really now so need to win against Burnley and watford( stating the bleeding obvious)

Interesting times.

I will get slated I know, but I believe that our defensive problems stem from Bruno he has been a good servant but is now past it and being caught out in all areas of his game.

My view is that key players are knackered. We have been playing at a high tempo and you can only do that for so long without it catching up. It’s exposing the lack of strength in depth sadly.

I think the fight had gone at that moment because the team knew they’d set up wrong. I think they were disappointed in themselves. I’m not worried about the general fight in the team.

God we need a bit more pace in the middle and up front.

Agreed. They're not tired.. how can they be?!? No European football etc. They're not fit enough, not quick enough... not PL ready.

Yes yes yes. We didn’t turn up. We lost every 50:50 challenge. We barely won a single header. Our passing was abysmal. The ball rarely stuck up front. Murray got caught offside too many times. He was so often isolated and unsupported. Bruno needs a rest. Every team is targeting that side now. Ryan misjudged the second goal badly. Dunk Duffy were not as dominate as they have been. Stephens and Propper lost the midfield. We had no pace anywhere. So yes it was every bit as bad.

yes imo.

We were far too negative from the off (even more so than we normally are), played no wingers, 1 up front, who was awful btw, showed no desire, passion to get anything out of the game, gave away soft goals from playtime defending, and only mustered 1 feabile shot from30 yards...............apart from that it was tickety boo.

If anything they were actually worse than last year, less clinical and less sprightly and thus we were therefore about as good as Burton.

I think theres a big difference between fit and athletic. everyone is different. players may well be fit enough but not able to run, sprint like athletes...... they cost the big££££££. its not so much about quality these days, but emphasis has clearly moved onto buying Athletic individuals who can make things happen with sheer pace and physicality.

Anyone in sport is an athlete and being an athlete isn't solely about sprinting.

Agreed and an athletic team with decent 'ballers - see Liverpool and Man City... utterly terrifying.

That said we've got Glenn Murray and they've got Salah et al. Are we seriously expecting to stay up?

Perspective needed for players and supporters. IMHO the squad need a psych specialist to help with the mental approach necessary to get through this season. Our 'togetherness', so highly praised in the CL seems to be on the wane, along with our belief, both of which are dependant on the squads mental approach. We are 13th in a bottom half which has a spread of just 3 points between 10th and 17th place, and we're on a bad run of form. After the transfer window last year, most of us would have laughed till we puked if you'd suggested that we would be 13th at this stage.
These are the same players that made Man U look ordinary and looked like a proper PL side. Yesterday we looked like a CL team. This is the dogfight we all knew it would be and this is the ultimate test of our strength as a club. I don't want to hear about the 'comfy' CL, I don't miss it at all, and thinking that way will undermine any belief we have about becoming a long term PL resident.
13th, with a CL side, one striker, new players that 'no one has ever heard of' and the last two games played with a team that didn't really show up is not a disaster. If things can't be improved then yes, we are f***ed, but it is clear that we can play a lot better and do have the resources to improve the squad so I am not giving up just yet.
