Because they weren't being let in?? I'm not saying that is or what isn't what happened but just a theory. I think most people would do the same thing in that situation if they are honest.

I thought people weren't let in because people had stormed the gates? At the point that the gates were stormed I would have thought everyone with a ticket was being let in. I can understand people storming the gates if they had a ticket and weren't being let in, but I don't think that's what happened.

That said, I actually have no idea what really happened, as I wasn't there.

You know what? reading the previous poster's question, and you elegant reply, you can understand how people still support Brexit. Perhaps the Palace fans stormed the gate in search of foie gras.

I assumed that the gates were stormed because they weren't being let in.

If I went to a match with a ticket and was made late for the match by the police then kept outside and saw an open gate, I would have gone through it. And would probably be looking at a banning order now as I wouldn't have thought to cover my face.

This all points to a massive balls up by sussex police, I think they have quite a series of questions to answer especially after it was apparantly a planned operation long in advance.

Why had no one asked the chaps with the ultra flag when they where in town during the day if they had tickets and if not removed them from Brighton?

Why did they take the Palace fans for an hour walk, making them turn up at the ground just before kick off. As this will have caused a large amount of people outside trying to get in for kick off? Perhaps making rushing a firedoor easier?

Why did they not go in and stop those letting of smoke bombs and bangers in the ground?

Why did they hold everyone outside that they wouldnt let in and then escort everyone to the train with any information?

Yet they tried to make the situation look worse than it was by mentioning knives and knuckle dusters. Perhaps to cover the fact that they got the policing of the game incredibly wrong, especially considering it was only a 2000 away allocation.

It doesnt bode well for the cup fixture really does it?

To be fair that's a fairly logical assumption to make. You're clutching at straws with that one.

Not so sure about that . Ticket holders who had been aimlessly marched around for 90 minutes then saw their chances of getting in slipping away due to a kettle being formed could conceivably have acted in such a way.

Has Barber confirmed who working for BHAFC told the police Palace fans had knives and knuckle dusters?

I personally add to this apology - the information regarding discarded weapons and pyros in the away end of the stadium was passed to us and believed to be true - this was clearly not the case.

It does beg the question of the reliability of Sussex police evidence? All of the fellows banned in the last few years for various transgressions from aggressive pint throwing to allegedly fighting marauding Russians in another country etc etc. If you cannot rely on the veracity of the police accounts of these events should these guys be banned? A can of worms has been opened up by this. Even if its an unrealistic aspiration, we expect our Police to tell the truth 100% of the time especially when they are talking about peoples liberty. Embellishing events to suit their own agenda is completely unacceptable.

On a related note, fancy changing your NSC username to 'Matchday Commander'? I believe there will be a vacancy for that position arising very shortly.

Well there was this missile found on the pitch during the Liverpool game , note the deadly serrated looking texture , thank goodness the missile launcher was apprehended shortly after .

Dear PC Balkham

I'm writing a story about a fight in a playground between two 8 year olds. It's all a bit dull at the moment and need to spice it up a bit. I'm thinking of introducing a shark with a laser beam into the story. What do you reckon? Too much?

Yours sincerely

Lee aged 48 and a bit.

The 'pyros in the away end of the stadium' clearly WAS the the case. As plod would clearly have known if they'd been inside the away end of the stadium doing their job properly instead of outsourcing to minimum wage away 'stewards' who looked the other way for 85 of the 90 minutes and joined in the general failure of duty of care to those fans in the away end. Basically they were abandoned to self-police. Shame on all involved - including the Albion security supervisors. Just won't do :nono:
