There seems no issue of "race/colour/creed or ethnicity" here, just nationality. So not racist, no.

And before anyone suggests that the Welsh are Celts and the English Anglo-Saxon, have a read of this. If you want to go into that sort of detail, you might have to divide Wales into north and south ...

I disagree. If Scots abusing English for being English is racist then so is this. And that certainly is a crime according to the Scottish Government.

In a sensible world, managers of national teams would have to qualify to represent their country the same as the players do. Then we would have none of this nonsense and African football for one wouldn't be littered with 2nd rate European managers.

Lets face it, football fails to conform to normal business or legal practices in a variety of ways. This isn't exactly news and lets face it, how much uproar would there be if we appointed a Welshman as England manager?? A lot of fans wouldn't be happy and the Welsh would mock us mercilessly.

I don't personally subscribe to the whole "they will be more passionate" argument but I do understand why some people take that view. Football is different to other sports such as rugby and cricket where it's much less of an issue.

We have always favoured Welsh people because arguably the passion is there," said FAW chief executive Jonathan Ford.

"Somebody said this earlier, Welsh most definitely, foreign possibly, but definitely not English."

So no matter what his/her credentials or ability, they would not employ an Englishman.

I thought according to employment laws you were not allowed to specifically rule out anyone due to race/colour/creed or ethnicity?

Good job they don’t apply this rule to their players seeing as over half their team were born in England.

Can't we just call this what it is... xenophobia. Those damned xenophobes really get on my tits (except I quite like the Welsh, they're a good laugh usually).
