Not certain but I don’t think so.

Never quite understood songs where basically it is telling GIs, the vast majority of whom
were in the draft, that they were going to die. Protest against the US govt in songs (and there was a lot
of that of course by Dylan etc), but i can never reconcile the sheer lack of empathy for people who
had no choice.

I'm trying to remember the name of the singer around this era who I read about a few years back and was feted as the next big thing but then got lost in the opium dens of Turkey and Afghanistan, eventually made it back to San Francisco but was so frazzled he'd lost it completely. He started out as a backing singer on the Andy Williams show. I heard a couple of his songs and was mightily impressed. Anyone know his name?
