[TV] Why don't women do HD

Without a doubt this is a thing. The game changer for me about five years ago was getting the new Virgin HD box in time for Wimbledon and being quite AGOG that the net wasn’t a homogenous piece of black cloth. Unreal detail.

Suddenly made the women’s matches much more palatable too. [emoji102]

I’ve thought this for a while now, especially Sky Sports. Cricket balls are basically single cuboid pixels in SD now and seem to skip across the green background slower than on a CPC6128 hooked up to an old GRUNDIG 14 incher.
The end generation CRTs were excellent for SD the newer technologies are just not optimised for SD, I guess you could also question the switchover to digital. SD channels really are the poor relation and if you compare ITV4 to ITV1 in SD there's a difference in broadcasting quality. People say BBC1 has dropped in quality of HD broadcasting since it first started.

Can't believe nobody has mentioned HD porn! My laptop is hooked up to a 21inch LED monitor - game changer and rendered half of porn unwatchable!!!

Totally on the money, in the UK Mrs SouthCoastOwl is completely incapable of finding the HD versions of any channel. Luckily here in France all the channels are in HD except the ones that are in 4K.

While I sympathise with your obvious plight. It might be you've missed the point that most posters on this thread have partners and are therefore less likely to need to avail themselves of visual stimulus while conjoining with Mrs Hand and her five daughters in the five knuckle shuffle.

My Mrs and step daughter are exactly the same. I always ask why they're watching SD when we have perfectly good HD channels to watch. I always get the infamous eye-roll as she proceeds to ignore my suggestions to turn over.
My sister insists there is absolutely no difference in quality. You can switch from one channel to the other and she will say that nothing is different.
When I first got my 4K TV I was amazed at the crispy sharpness, 'er indoors just shrugged and went "Meh".
It's very clearly a blokey thing.

Hmm - my wife is obviously the exception to the rule as she always puts the HD version on. What does annoy me is the "local-ish" news after the news at 6pm and 10pm on BBC is not broadcast in HD so you have to change over. Not that the news is normally worth watching in HD anyway !

Maybe it’s a bit like hi-fi? I was heavily into hifi for ages and spent a fortune keep upgrading. The. I realised that when I was really into the music I enjoyed it just a much on my old kitchen radio, so flogged my hifi fo a deposit on a house. A football match doesn’t get any more exciting just cos you can see every blade of grass.

Haven’t been through the whole thread but exactly the same here.

In fact made worse by the fact my other half insists on watching SD all the time because you can’t get the local news in HD [emoji849]

When I downgraded sky, they cancelled all my hd channels apart from the normal channels, I.e. Bbc, itv

So I have sky sports, but just the standard definition ones.

Indeed, my housemate (female) always puts 101 on virgin to watch BBC, I always change it to BBC 1 HD 108 when she is not looking Why would you watch blue planet on 101!

Exactly the same in our house too

What really gets my goat is that the local news isn't in HD so you either sit and watch the swimmers, mountain rescue team or boxers for the whole time of the programme or switch channels

Women don't do HD because the men we live with look scary! Or maybe it's because there are more important things in life than TV.

My ag is my wife records entire series links on SD I then have to go in after the first episode and re do!!!!!!!

Recording in HD takes up much more space on your hard drive. I find it better to record in SD especially if I want to save shows.

I'm slowly training the wife in the art of remembering HD channel numbers, she's managed to get 178 down, working on 115. 227 for C4HD just isn't going to be worth it though.

We had Sky for one year due to an offer from an Nsc'er, but when it finished we still have the HD channels. My other half switches it to HD every time eg 115, 178 etc, but I honestly can't tell the difference.
