Would love to see Dunk in the England squad, but think he will need a few injuries to players ahead of him. Saying that, being November friendlies, I wouldn't be surprised for a few players to pull out due to "minor injuries'.

Cahill, Stones, Jones, Smalling, Maguire, Keane, Mawson, Dier, Gibson, Dunk.

That's 10 options for the CB places in a WC squad. If he is considering playing 3 at the back, then he'd take 5 in the squad, but one of those would be nailed on as Dier, given that he can cover midfield as well.

Leaves 4 places for 9 candidates. Of those listed Lewis is currently probably only ahead of Ben Gibson, but plenty can change in the next 6 months. He ahs an outside chance at best.

Conte says not got a squad and two players on loan get picked. Have RLC Done much? Three good games for Liverpool see Gomez in. When dunk isn't named his agent will be saying he needs a move to Liverpool!

What does Southgate know though, seriously?
RLC, Abraham in squad, just shows that he doesn't really know much about football.
Also will be hilarious if he puts Hart in his squad again, felt like he ran out of excuses last time he was in squad, and he's been poo since then, so can't wait to here how he justifies this one.

Nobody, suspect a lot will depend on who they're drawn against in the World Cup.

Not surprised Lewis isn't in. No disaster, he's still young and will be called up soon enough. Whilst disappointing for him, it's not exactly bad new news for the Albion as he is absolutely crucial to us and the couple of weeks rest can only help.

The three that have been called up are all quality, young players who deserve a go and Southgate probably had them in the u21's so knows them well.

Loftus Cheek involved who's currently part of the worst team in the top 5 English leagues and Gomez who's in because he plays for Liverpool, no matter how much potential he may have, Liverpool seem to be an absolute basket case at the back. Do Brighton not have a better defensive record than them and one of their players in involved in the squad?

Well perhaps being overlooked will simply spur Lewis on to even better performances to prove Southgate wrong.

The England call will come.

I always want England to win, but maybe a couple of friendly defeats with comedy defending will give Lewis a chance - even though he doesn't play for a 'big' club.

Good point. We'll go down our tried and tested route of finding similar but weaker opposition to our Group opponents. That plan has served us pretty well going into previous tournaments.

So Joe Gomez plays 11 games for Liverpool in thier comedy defence and gets called up. Typical Southgate pick of one of his U21 clique.
