Kidnap them and lock them up. If they're genuine, plod will be involved and will inevitably knock on your door. If a few days pass with no plod, they were sizing you up so best to kill them and dispose of the bodies.

make that an offer, ask for a family tree, history, the one with the nicest/most complete gets the deal.
