probably just me, but

i know it is political / years of oppression / inbalance of wealth etc

but - the media melt-down would be ace if barcelona fc got binned out of the spainish league at the end of the season

would they have to go to the preliminary rounds of the champs league after they win catalonia league one in 18/19 ?

clearly a vote for indepedence doesnt automatically change anything, it would take months, couple of years to actually deliver. even if did happen, the Catalonian clubs are hardly likly to join the Premier, La Liga may well change their mind when they realise the impact, and more likely to join the French league for geographical reasons if nothing else.

Spain is under no obligation to accept the result of the referendum anyway, they are trying to stop it happening, so it is unlikely to make any difference whatsoever. A bit different to here when the government approved of the Scotref and would have had to let Scotland have independence if voted for.

I'm sure if they do vote for independence it will lead to years of campaigning for the will of the people, but nothing is going to change on Monday morning.

Catalan has always wanted independance. Remember Andora was a part of Spain once.
But this vote is a bit of a farce. Madrid say it is illegal and have boat loads of police ready to raid every polling station and shut it down. You cant compare it with anything as it is a part of a country that want to go it alone. UK and the EU and Scotland and the UK are countries splitting away. Can you imagine Kent wanting to put up borders?

If the vote is successful - then Catalonia will unilaterally declare independence.

What happens after that would be interesting. It could get messy.

Yep, it could.

From what I’ve read about this, the Spanish government has handled this badly. There were promises in the past for more autonomy and these were agreed, but then the Spanish government changed after an election and reneged on the deal. This led to more resentment into Catalan and ultimately the drive for independence,

Added to that, the heavy handed nature of this will cause a number of people who were maybe borderline voters to become ‘nationalistic’ as they see how they are being treated (it’s easy to portray the Spanish government badly in this). Contrast this to the Scottish vote. Of course there was emotive language on both sides, but the police were never called in to arrest anyone.

So yes, this could get interesting, coupled to that the knock-on effect to the EU/Euro.

Pringles?

Catalan police in a very precarious posistion with orders from the national government to stop the vote.

If they don't intervene it's a coup.

Fair play to these not Spanish people.

I would also support a Sussex uprising against the rest of the country, especially Scotland.
