Think you are going to struggle to get much cheaper than that. The London Euston to Manchester Piccadilly train is notoriously expensive at c £250 return at peak times.

Haven't checked myself but you can sometimes get cheap singles from Euston to new street then more singles to Manchester.

Seems expensive as still a couple of months away. Got Swansea train tickets from London at £60 for 2 adults with rail card.
