Truman never issued the order to drop either bomb, and was reported to be "surprised" at the short amount of time between the dropping of the bomb on Hiroshima and the dropping on Nagasaki. After Nagasaki, he issued an order that no further bombs were to be dropped without his express authorisation. As we know, no further bombs were dropped.

Nagasaki was the secondary target that day, having only very recently been added to the list of targets. The orders stipulated that visual contact had to be made before the bomb could be dropped, because the alternative method of bomb aiming (radar) was deemed too inaccurate (0.5 - 1.0 miles off target). When the plane got to Nagasaki, there was no visual confirmation possible until the last moment when the bomb aimer claimed he saw a small break in the cloud cover, enough to drop the bomb through. The bomb exploded 0.75 miles off target.

The whole thing could be an intelligent ploy by NK to prevent themselves being invaded like many other non-Western countries have been. Show of some nuclear capability and demonstrate it would be chaos if the West invades. They may view the risk of invasion and regime change becomes less likely as they increase their nuclear capability and show this to the outside world. Alternatively, they could simply be a bunch of nutters.

NK is a really tricky one. The problem with the sanctions is who gets hit hardest? The innocent, ordinary citizen.

Is diplomacy really out of the question? It seems to have worked well for Iran, although they are not the nutters they have been portrayed as (one of the most misrepresented nations in the world), where as, no matter how deep you dig, the NK elite seem like absolute looneys.

The same could be said about the U.S. They start or are involved in pretty much every war across the globe, whilst lining their pockets. They also have lunatic Trump at the helm.

When did NK last go to war or stick their nose in everyone's business? ???

I cant imagine an emerging super power like China will want to have western capitalistic forces invading territory close to their door step.
