Brighton vs Crystal Palace futures.

I was thinking about out history for the last 20 years and our position relative to Palace. I think all sensible posters would admit that we've been the poor relation for a long time now, even before Hereford.

So, is this the moment that we will look back on and say, "Our first season in the Premier League was when the roles changed"?

I'm not saying it's a foregone conclusion we'll stay up. As we're aware, events can derail plans, but there appears so much more to be optimistic about being a Brighton fan now and for the future than being Palace.

Such as:
I. Chairman who's first and foremost a fan and on evidence so far, is not out to make money from his investment. No dodgy foreign investors who want to interfere and/or make a tidy profit.
2. New, classy stadium.
3. New, state-of-the-art training facility.
4. A group of managers/directors who seem to be on the same page.
5. Plans to develop our own players - yes, it will take time and the majority won't make it, but that's football.
6. Not willing to risk the club on marquee signings just to satisfy some of the critics.

Compare this to Palace. They need to survive as their wages bill is so high. The stadium is, well, more like start-of-the-ark. Parish I think has done on OK job, but he's made a mistake with the yanks and relegation would hurt them bad.

It's not unreasonable to imagine a Palace relegation and us surviving and then building on that for next season. We won't be the new boys, so players may be more willing to risk signing if they feel we have a better chance of survival.

I think all sensible posters would remember that they have been in administration twice.

Something that none of their deluded fans ever allude to as a means which kept their shoddy, cheating club in an elevated position at the expense of other clubs who did not spend money that wasn't theirs.

Lancing is not just about the Academy. Its the facilities for all of the various teams , its the medical facilities, and it has produced players that have been sold to other clubs. The fact that we have a facility that rivals the best in Europe will also help to bring players here. Take our neighbours up the road who used to use a local "Goals" facility. Not exactly inspiring

I get all that and it's certainly impressive (although the Etihad Complex is something else) The point I'm trying to make is the constant 'Super new stadium and world class training centre' is cringeworthy and sets us up for a fall.

it's a statement of fact; however,

...and also something that we, as a club, can take a huge amount of pride in. Despite the total dog's breakfast we found ourselves in we never had to hit the big red button and stiff our creditors.

Quite a few players who've joined us have mentioned the training facilities (and stadium) as part of the reason for signing.

Yes, yes, I know it's all about money but we've got money now so it's definitely an advantage to not play in a shithole and train in a moderately upgraded public park.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves. We've won 1 game in the premier league.
One game at a time and bump this thread with a handful of games to go

What's palaces training facilities like? Aren't they a tier one academy as well?

I drive past their main training centre in Beckenham by Kent cricket club and its laughably bad compared to Lancing. The Academy boys actually share the public Goals pitch hire opposite and use a dilapidated inflatable dome in Crystal Palace park when the weathers bad.

I can't stand them
We've got all the class
We've got the stadium, the training ground, the city, the county and everything

And yet when we have to play them, we have got a shocking record.
I dread playing them.
But I know at the end of the day, and the season, I'd rather be down here than up there in that shit hole.
I'd rather have the Amex
I'd rather have Tony Bloom than whoever runs them.
I'd rather have Chris than..... no stop it, don't make me laugh
I'd rather have our fans than the pyromaniacs
I'd rather have our history than theirs

Even if we lose both games this year, I just know that I'd rather be going home to Sussex by the sea than to Riot central

Again, no it doesn't, these are the sort of things that will attract talent to a club and not just mercenaries who are only attracted by a large wad of cash waved in their direction.

If we want sustainable success at the very top flight of foootball then these are our current positives. Hopefully in 3 or 4 years time we will be able to attract players because we are an established Premier League side.

We are a club moving in the right direction albeit slowly. They have had premier league football but don't seem to have a long term plan for success and ultimately could get relegated any season and then spiral into financial mess before going into administration to right off their debts and start again.

I personally think they have a stronger squad than us but lose matches against lesser sides so could easily be drawn into a relegation battle. Unfortunately they don't look after their managers and the players have not played for the last few causing the chairman to sack them needlessly. A real lack of leadership throughout
