Tony Blair has just revealed how he became obsessed with creating a British Football League, as a way of uniting the UK.

What do we think?

No,

Would mean a British national team.

Very unlikely to unite the UK, English clubs at the top, 99% of Scottish teams League 1 or lower. Northern Ireland and Welsh teams National league or lower.

Stupid idea

English dont want it, Scots dont want it, Welsh, well they already have it, and the Northern Irish aren't large enough to matter.

only a few pundits and maybe businessmen ever advocate it, i dont recall Ranger/Celtic themselves being interested and no one else would gain anything.

Rangers and Celtic were very keen at the time and a proposal was being muted - http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/1682563.stm

I recall signing a petition against it.

Why the f**K does Blair keep feeling the need to chirp up and attempt to keep himself relevant? Can't he consign himself to the dustbin of history already, content with all the death and destruction he caused.

I think in this case it is more about him trying to think of ways of keeping Scotland part of the UK. Which is something that l do agree with.

If we ignore Iraq - remembering he did win a GE after 2003

For what he was trying to achieve, that being the cultural assimilation of the UK, this isn't a terrible idea.

Brighton / Hove actually
Blair is a cancer that hasn't been removed and every time he gets into the public domain he insults our intelligence.

We expect other leaders of the world to be held accountable for their crimes but we don't attend to ours. If he was tried as a war criminal years ago the West wouldn't be seen as such hypocrites and it would be one less reason for Muslims to have angst against us. Every Muslim I have listened to, moderate or not, will justify the actions of the terrorists with the Iraq war.

At the very least Blair should be kept under lock and key even if it is in his own house. He costs the taxpayer millions in security which he uses at home and abroad so it will be cheaper if he wasn't mobile anyway.

Your suggestion kind of devalues war criminality. If Blair had been tried as a war criminal years ago he would have been found not guilty years ago. It would have been different if "Finding yourself too far up America's bottom" was a crime. He might have copped that one, and would now be sharing a cell with Liam Fox.

And Scotland joining the league? Inverness v Brighton would involve a 1200-mile round trip so no. Anyway, we don't have enough things to call our own in England.
