I take your points but we're hardly going to get a top class player in to be our 4th choice centre back or back up for fullbacks. He started in Bruges's Champions and Europa league qualification games and 3 out of 5 league games so hardly a 'benchwarmer'

Centre back cover to allow Goldson to go to Ipswich on loan.
Cost neutral. An entirely sensible deal.
Still (ideally) need a full back as "flexible" cover he is not.

Looks a decent enough squad option and a loan to buy makes sense financially with our poor negotiating position on strikers likely to cost us big time today. Having another left sided centre back balances the squad and gives us another option at left back where we look very weak. Get this done alongside a loan move for Goldson and it should be good business for us.
