And that hook brings up the 50th boundary of the day :clap2:

Malan sends a half-tracker from Joseph to the square leg fence.

328-3

Post 500+ and then bowl at them in the last hour of the day as ball is swinging

Cook gets the 51st off the first ball of the next over... a seriously feeble attempt on the boundary from square leg :nono:

Afternoon everyone. Crucial first hour for the Windies with the new ball, they probably need a minimum 4 wickets in this session.

I watched the highlights of yesterday's play with mixed emotions - Cook and Root were sublime but I think I'm watching the worst Windies test line-up in any of my 49 years. It is a great shame they are so poor with no depth whatsoever.

I fancy England to smash their highest total vs Windies in Engand - currently 619/6 declared in Nottingham 60 years ago.

I expect Cook to go early but hope not, as they usually do on the day following a good innings.

You LITERALLY ( (c) Jamie Redknapp) state this about EVERY not out England batsman, on EVERY night of EVERY Test match.

Lack of penetration continues in the first 10 overs this morning... but fewer boundary balls too... England 369-3 (100 overs)

and the 100.1 ball drifts down leg and is clipped to fine leg for FOUR by Cook :clap2:

and the 100.2 ball is a leg stump half-volley that goes to midwicket for FOUR :clap2:

Alzarri Joseph has gone at 5.2 an over from his 18... really poor.

"New" ball now 20 overs old, the partnership is up to 90. Oh, to be at Edgbaston with a beer in hand, this is payback time for some of the absolute pastings we took in the 70s and 80s....

700 on the cards.

It will be interesting to see what Root does with the follow-on if we bowl them out and finish 1st innings with a 400 run lead, say 650 runs vs 250. Are Broad and Anderson capable of two days of solid bowling, or will Root bat again purely to give his bowlers a rest?
