It's a very fine line. The use of "banter" and, as you say, "bantz" without irony is HORRIFIC.

However, I'm very much a fan of using "bantz" ironically to signify terrible humour. Mainly in an Alan Partridge style "that is LOVELY banter"

I agree. "Badinage" is so much better.
