Weddings during the Football season

A relative is getting married on Saturday, around an hour away from Falmer on the train. I dont want to miss the game, should i feel guilty leaving for a few hours to make it over to the Amex?

Anyone else left a wedding midway through to watch the Albion?

I was at a wedding in Wales when we played Hereford. I was only about 30 miles away but I couldn't really get out of it - I was best man.

I did, however, skip a mate's wedding when we played Arsenal in our first game in the 1st Division. He was an avid supporter too, what was he thinking?

My mate decided to get married in Gloucester on the day of our first match at Withdean. I was
best man.

It didn't bother me really. 20 or so odd other home matches - and you don't get asked to be best man
every day or even invited to a wedding. Don't fight it - embrace it.

Girlfriends daughter getting married on the 19th (Liecester away) but as I don't have a ticket it's not all bad. 4 O'clock ceremony so might catch some of the first half on Player.

This is the opionion im currently swaying to. Seems ludicrious to have a wedding in the football season.

I missed the opener at The Amex because my daughter got married, 6th August 2011.

In what seems to be a cruel twist of fate, I'm more than likely going to miss Saturday as my foot has blown up with gout again meaning I cannot walk.

Will you get invited to the 'Divorce Absolute' ceremony two years from now ? No, of course you wont.....go to the match.

Oh...and yes, I skipped the wedding reception of my then sister in law to watch a game 40 years ago....still gets mentioned.

My uncle got married on the day we played in the FA Cup semi-final. In fairness, when that date was booked I'm sure nobody had an inkling we'd be 1 step away from Wembley.

Most blokes at the sit-down meal had an earpiece in, listening to the game (at the old Apollo hotel along the seafront). There was a spontaneous ERUPTION around all the tables when Jimmy Case scored. Then at about 10pm during the reception, the place almost cleared as all the blokes shuffled off upstairs to watch the highlights on Match of the Day.

A double for me, got married on a Friday and saw a 1-1 draw with Norwich on the Saturday, and my son was born on a Friday so I saw a 1-1 draw with Barnsley on the Saturday both games at the Goldstone.

Poor planning if you ask me. Wedding was in May, kids were all born in July. Picked a missus with a July birthday as well.

Saying that, the last season I spent much time at the Amex was during Hyppia's reign, so my planning means jack. I'm nervous about getting back to live games in case it was me being there that jinxed it.

Yes, this is the answer. The only other time I was best man was when the wedding was on a Friday. And as this was in January, it was slap bang in the middle of the season, so I was free to watch Albion at the weekend (as it happens, the game was switched to Sunday as it was against Liverpool in the cup, but the principle was sound).

Allopurinol + diclofenac is your friend. You can also use https://www.goutcare.co.uk/gout-meter-kits.html to keep an eye on your Uric acid (& glucose) levels, which gives you about 3-4 days advance notice of an impending attack, allowing you to up the dose of diclofenac before the attack arrives. Get the dosage up soon enough and the attack never arrives. Been a god send.
