The focus is still on transfer fees. The closest correlation for success is player wages. We have overperformed in the Championship on this criterion. However, I am not sure we can pull the same trick off in the PL.

11 individual superstars doesn't make a team, they will need time to gel that's why l think we will have a fair chance against Man city! Must be the biggest financial mismatch in premier league history...but we still have a chance!

The Kyle Walker transfer showed that you can't keep all the players happy all the time, and the Eric Dier to United story shows how fragile things are. This is Pochettino's biggest challenge of his career. If they're in the new stadium AND in the Champions League then they're really in business.

Sorry Spence, but I completely disagree with the "Leicester was a fluke" bit. There is no way a team could 'fluke' results week in and week out against the best league teams in the world. They had one thing that the rest of the div did not, and that was belief, plain and simple. You can achieve extraordinary things with belief. The trick is in how you install that belief into your team and keep it there. That why clubs invest in sports psychologists to help players/teams with the mental aspects of the game; teamwork, visualisation, belief etc. Leicester got it bang on. Thing is, you can't really buy it, so most teams will focus on the standard belief system of spend big or go under. They did not buy into that belief system and look what happened. Probably not likely to happen again soon, but who knows.

It was a fluke for a team like Leicester to win the league instead of one of the bigger clubs. Sorry but that's the way it is. They were 5000/1 to win it.

This. They were blessed with the services of one-season-wonder Jamie Vardy who for one reason or another kept leaving over-valued bang-average opposition defenders flat-footed. That season was a freak of nature. The 5000/1 odds were about right. We won't see that one happen again anytime soon. Er, probably...
Next season they nearly went down and sacked there title winning manager. Definitely a fluke which i stand by but a brilliant one and there's no denying that.

Of the players no longer at the club, they lost money on all of them apart from Modric...

However, Barca have been touted at £150m for Coutinho IF they sell Neymar, which I think has fallen through, and that would probably pay for VVD and Keita and leave a further £150m in the kitty. That makes a jump to 1st or 2nd spot even without Coutinho.
So, mega money players, big bucks deals and coffers stuffed with gold win you titles.

Levy is one of the hardest negotiators and very hands on in recruitment, but even he's blundered big time on many an occasion.
No wonder Wenger is so cautious on spending big sums on the unproven.

There are no guarantees of course, but finishing positions in the PL correspond fairly closely to budgets and if you underachieve the first outcome is the sacking of the manager usually. There may be a difference of a couple of places from time to time but the top 6 budgets were the top 6 finishers last season although the placings were a bit mixed up. Two of the bottom three spenders were relegated too. Only Burnley overachieved in that regard.
The idea that our team spirit will overcome bigger budgets is not based in reality I'm afraid.
