On lunch break and having a debate with a colleague at work...try and answer honestly!

I'd say it's a close call. Townsend better at crossing and more pace, Knockaert more of a goal threat.

I've seen closer calls. Townsend is bang average, Knocky is a wizard.

Townsend has spent most of his career in the top flight, and has played at International level. Knockaert has not. So at the moment, you'd have to say Townsend.

If Knocky tears it up next season then we can have a proper debate on it.

Of course you have a point. But Townsend was a Spurs player for eight years and made 22 Prem Lg starts, with nine loans. He hasn't exactly been a star. Also France have arguably an even better and more talented squad than Germany in terms of depth, you have to really go some to get in there. The same cannot always be said of England.

have to agree. Number of games last season, particularly towards the end when it looked like Knocky had been sussed

Townsend has shown class sporadically on the international stage and at the top level, whereas Knocky has done the business consistently but only in the Championship and Pro League... If you're going by their records, Townsend marginally. We'll have a clearer idea after this season though I'm sure.

Agreed. In terms of what he's achieved and levels at which he's played, it has to be Townsend. At least for now. Wouldn't mind him coming to us if we could afford him.

True, but Townsend is always up against a better class of player, whereas Knockaert has only ever been up against 2nd division defenders. He's proved he can torment them mercilessly, but it remains to be seen if he can transfer that to the PL.

If Knockaert adapts to the PL and carries on doing what he's been doing for the last 18 months then yes, he'll have proved himself to be a better player. But we don't know if he can do that yet.

If Knocky continues to do it in the Premier League we will have a 40 million pound player on our hands who won't be with us the following season !

Bellend he may be but Townsend is stronger on the ball and, in my view, a better player.

Townsend has to get the nod if im being honest, but would he have got 15 goals for us and all those assists last season.... probably not... on top of that he is not anywhere near as flair...

Townsend is another of those players that as soon as they move fail to ignite in a way that they had.. In a developing Spurs side, he looked great and was exciting when he played for England, but really hasn't moved on and maybe thought he was better than he was by playing in a reasonable side. Knocky is more valuable to us than Townsend to them, but would have to say, without Premier League experience Knocky is just behind in a direct comparison..

I'm not a facts man, so it's Knocky for me. Townsend is a sometimes huffer and puffer who has his moments, but hasn't the allround game to match our beaky, bulging with determination magician.
