[Albion] How many players SHORT are the Albion right now?

It is dependent on who in our existing squad can step up to the mark?

Last time around Peter O'Sullivan surprised me of by being good enough in the first season. Most likely equivalent is Jamie Murphy (he played well against Reading).

Will we have three keepers in the 25 man squad? Has Goldson had enough match practice to make the cut of 25? Is Rob Hunt gonna go out on loan for more experience?

I'd say 5 or 6. Strikers is the most interesting area. None of our current strikers is proven at that level, so you're gambling on all three. They might do it, they might not. Think you have to add someone with some top-flight pedigree (not necessarily England). And along with others, full-backs, a centre back, and maybe another quality midfielder.

Keeper, two full backs, a winger, a striker or two and if only one then another more seasoned AMC.

Think we'll have two/three in ahead of the City game and the remainder by end of window.

Too late now. Danny Williams reminded me of Brian Horton.

None of the wingers we have been associated with like Snodgrass do not really seem to have the pace at either at sprint speed or acceleration to worry the opposition.

There can be many strings to a striker's bow, but the one that has defenders reaching for their comfort blankets is raw, unadulterated pace.

I'm sure that CH is both well aware of the problems they cause. And that means our new left back would ideally have a bit of pace for recovery speed against quick opposition strikers. .

Or we could put an extra player in midfield and try and cut out the service. 4-2-3-1.

Bare minimum of 5 more if Maenpaa stays:

At least one full back
Centre back
At least one CM
At least one striker
Left winger

PS: So why does not Lualau learn to run into space like Baldock

It might save a few £million on a foreign flop?

We do not really want to play deep all the time or else we will end up like Middlesbrough and not be able to create chances, let alone score. Then if we do not create it won't matter about the striker. So we need two quality players as well as a striker.

We can only play on one wing at a time, so I see us starting many games with just one out and out winger. Overlapping left back on the other side of Knocky. So the play can be switched suddenly (e.g. Wayne Bridge v Newcastle.) This is why the left back is rather important. We could squeeze another defensive midfielder (left sided) and allow Dale Stephens to go forward more when chasing the game?

Dreams of total football, when players are not just specialised, seems to have been forgotten.

The most astonishing thing of all is perhaps that in the modern game, total football is not at all as prevalent as it perhaps should be. Why are there so many specialist players out there now,

As we cannot afford one trick wonders, maybe our existing players can step up to the mark? Luckily, we have a full pre-season, although I would have liked two new players already signed.

It really does depend on what position for me.

If we sign two good quality strikers then I fancy we can compete and then we just need a bit of general squad filling up.

However if we sign two left backs then we are a long way short on the goal scoring front.

So 4, but I voted 3 for some reason.

Frankly I just don't know.
