Did I read somewhere that the planes for the QE haven't even been designed/ completed yet and we are buying them off the USA?

Btw, we were cruising out of Toulon and passed the Charles De Gaulle and USS Ronald Reagan...made our ship which is a huge with 3500 passengers + 1500 crew look like a lifeboat!

The commanding office is one Captain (Jerry) Kydd.....

Pieces of eight.....
A few years ago, the US Navy launched a state-of-the-art destroyer called the USS Zumwalt - the commanding officer was Captain James Kirk.

No confirmation on whether the XO had pointy ears, mind you.

I was on the old 'big' Ark Royal, and I remember a picture of us next to, I think the Nimitz, and we looked like its escort destroyer.

I once had to create a 3d model of the Nimitz for military flight simulators and whenever I had to test it by simulating a landing, all I can say is it seemed really, really small.

We had to mount a guard on the Lowestoft when we went to Aberdeen during the IRA times. Was given a stick with some metal on the end. Seemed a little inadequate, given that we could be facing people with military grade weapons.

Jointly designed with them and the first batch should be with the ship testing next year, flown by RN & RAF pilots. They are flying now with our girls and boys at the controls, spread the word Dave because too many people are trolling about "no planes for her" without doing simple research.

During the 60/70 I used to go to Navy days at Portsmouth with my familey even then we had lots of ships and diesel subs I think it was the ark Royal I went aboard I was in the NTC TSAlert and nearly joined the Navy but manage to get a job with American Express :( however some times I think i may have missed a great chance for a different experience. But it did mean I could follow the Albion.

Lockheed-Martin F-35 Lightning II

As an aside, the first RAF Squadron to be operationally equipped with the F-35 will be the most famous Squadron in the RAF - 617.

The Lockheed-Martin F-35 Lightning II

First announced in 2001, the US-led F-35 programme has ballooned into the most expensive weapons project in history. Its £1 trillion cost has been condemned by President Trump as “out of control”. A report last week found that the estimated cost of the programme had risen by £21 billion in the past year.

Britain, which has pledged to spend more than £12 billion on the new jets and aircraft carriers by 2021, is to buy 138 F-35s. The first tranche of 48 will be the B variant — the same type that the US had to ground last month because of software glitches. The first squadron will arrive at RAF Marham next August and will be deployed on HMS Queen Elizabeth, the first of two new carriers, from 2020 ....The F-35 is still in development, but the number of faults identified by independent experts has worried many. “It is unbelievably abnormal to have this level of problems in every aspect,” Pierre Sprey, a US aviation expert, said. “Manoeuvrability is appallingly bad. It has terrific problems trying to fly fast at low altitude. It overheats and when you detect the overheating you have to open the bomb bay doors to cool the missiles that are inside. The logistic computers are a horrible mess and it is crippling the ability to be able to move the aeroplanes from one airfield to another.”
