Worthing
I was on the old Ark Royal 64 - 66 the only commission that didn’t go stateside, just my luck. We went to the Far East for 12 months. 9 bunks in a mess deck of 64. I spent most of my time on the upper deck on a camp bed which my hammock could be converted into. Did I tell you about my station leave in Mombasa? We lived in a cave next to Silversands holiday resort! True story.[/QUOTE

Mombasa? Sunshine bar!!! A navy legend that I heard about a good couple of years before actually being in it haha Didnt travel much further tbh haha

Another veteran of the Sunshine bar here,an hmmm, shall we say,’interesting ‘ run ashore.

I loved Kenya, probably my favourite country visited.

A bit presumptuous of me but would love to see that photo!

Fortunately the internet saves me having to scan anything as the image can be found on wikimedia:

I've always wondered whether Grandad was one of those men stood on deck.

Turns out that the soon-to-be ex-husband of my partner’s best friend was the Navigation Officer on the Astute when it ran aground. I’ve only known him for the last four or five years, and my mother always told me that if you have nothing nice to say, say nothing.

There was a famous signal sent by one of the Hong Kong Minesweepers, that managed to go aground on the Chinese mainland in the 70s.
Their signal was along the lines of... have become temporary landmark on Chinese landscape.
