Extremism - both sides

Apologies, I couldn't see your puffed out cheek from here!!

Who has actually claimed it was the 'extreme' left that won workers rights rather than just those left of centre? There is a political spectrum. Vast majority are either just to the right or just to the left of centre. Those at either extreme are almost certainly in a very small minority.

Agree with all that. It was in response to this:

Some 'extremism' depends on your POV. For example, left 'extremism' gave us the weekend and women the right to vote

I hasten to add I condemn all violence and extremism on both sides of the political spectrum.

Normal people like a lively back and forth, it's a sign of maturity to be able to actually listen to the other persons opinion. I had a very good debate over a large Hibiki whiskey about the relative merits of gun control, abortion law, and the minimum wage with a few mates of differing upbringings and life experiences the other day. But we were all still friends at the end, I suppose that is the difference between rel life and the internet.

I think you will find 98% of people don't give two f***s if you're gay/black/white/muslim/christian. But they do care if you're a c**t.

To expand on the whole "internet" thing I grew increasingly f***ing annoyed by all the labour d**k sucking and posted a "rant" about virtue signalling and Diane Abbott and Guardian readers etc etc and my father in law has been a bit odd lately, it wasn't directed at him per se, but he seems to have taken it personally.

Social media has changed the way we view news, without a shadow of a doubt. It does make us think differently. I don't believe for a minute we would have voted Brexit without it. It has been a game changer. I don't know if that is a good thing or not, we are in the baby/nursery stages of this new outlet. Time will tell.

Indeed and I agree with your sentiments entirely, so why do 20k (left and right) of extremists grab headlines? Why don't us 'normal' people go out there and grab our streets back? Would we be extreme centre?

Because we're busy with other stuff.

Personally I think most people could do with studying philosophy. I've found that the more I've read/studied/discussed the less everything actually makes sense.

Big fan of Albert Camus.

My point still hasn't been answered, are the far left and the far right basically the same once they have power?
Yes.... the 'fascist' style intolerance of an alternative point of view is common in both camps ....

Extremist views of what ever kind must be challenged not to do so can only lead to the breakdown of the society

Martin Niemöller quotation:

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Never heard of him
But with a name like that i bet he takes a good penalty

I like the Socialism, I like the idea of it ,I like what it stands for, I don't however like either the people who preach it or those who support it!

Are you referring to youngsters or oldsters? Sorry, I'm a bit confused.

Youngsters, also to wrappped up in emotions. Therefor easily have emotions manipulated by politics in music, thats the kind of thing Hitler did and is so beloved of the Guardian. Also why you get the SWP on campus but not outside jobcentres.

Really so you like Socialism in its purest form? I think you may have contradicted yourself in the latter part!
