Sam Allardyce has insisted he has no interest in returning to management "at the moment" and believes his successor at Crystal Palace, Frank de Boer, deserves more time.

The 62-year-old's talk of enjoying "a break from football" is, however, a significant departure from his statements when he resigned from the club saying he had no plans to ever return.

It has been reported that, after losing his first three league games, De Boer's position is already under threat and that Palace would be interested in luring Allardyce back to Selhurst Park.

to be the next Premier League manager to lose his job. That's ahead of West Ham boss Slaven Bilic () and Arsenal chief Arsene Wenger (1).

During his five months there last season, Allardyce said he did not want to be seen as a survival specialist.

Upon his resignation in May, shortly after helping them preserve their Premier League status, he also spoke of having "no ambitions to take another job", adding: "I simply want to be able to enjoy all the things you cannot really enjoy with the 24-7 demands of managing any football club, let alone one in the Premier League.

Yet speaking to Talksport on Tuesday, he said: "Being associated with any club at this early stage of the season would not be of any interest to me at the moment.

"I have just had a trip to Hawaii watching from afar and I went to watch Manchester United on Saturday and I wouldn't associate myself with any job at this moment in time.

"Three games into the Premier League season, it is a little hasty when people talk about you coming back into football.

"At this moment in time, I am very comfortable in my life. My time in the Premier League for many, many years has been tremendously exciting and I have enjoyed every minute, but having a break from football is the right thing for me to do.

"I am just watching Premier League football with great interest, watching how it is panning out, and not living under the pressures that every manager in the Premier League is."

Palace have so far struggled in losing to Huddersfield, Liverpool and Swansea under De Boer, who was sacked by Inter Milan last season after only 85 days.

It was pretty perceptive back then.

As for Sam Allardyce, I'd imagine that it's a good life to work for 4-5 months of each year with a big payoff each time.

Having survived via route one last year - replace him with manager playing opposite style. Big surprise results are crap?

Same as Derby played 4-3-3 for years - appointed 4-4-2 Pearson. Big surprise players looked totally lost?

We changed our playing style gradually under CH - though big plus for CH was under SH no one knew what it was!

De Boer is a "superior" manager to Dyche according to the majority of Palace fans....that was certainly their opinion in July if not at the moment.

The Sun carried a similar piece yesterday, saying Hodgson had been lined up.

Paying off the rest of De Boer's 3-year contract won't be cheap.

Shame eh?

On the one hand, you could argue that it's a reflection of the short-term outlook of some boards and chairmen that they would hire a manager known for liking his teams to play in a particular style, then fail to back him in the transfer window and bring in players who could contribute to said style, then threaten him with the sack for not having got it right after THREE games of a THIRTY EIGHT game season.

On the other hand of course, it's rather amusing to consider that even though we've had our own much-discussed disappointments and struggles so far this season, the lot up the road are still managing to make a bigger cock-up of things.

In either case, my conclusion is the same - it is only fair that Mr de Boer is given a minimum of six months, preferably a whole season, to try to get things right at Palace.

Absolutely agree, in this case especially. They should keep him until January at least.

It would boost our survival chances significantly.

One thing, Oscar, Sami & Chris have in common.

One of their first press conference utterances were words to the effect of:-

'I want to play a certain way and it's good that there are so many players already here capable of that'.

Awful lot of bitterness on here. :D I'd say Frank is a solid appointment. Experienced but still reasonably young, A lot to like about him. Obviously only time will tell if he is a good appointment but happy enough with him considering some of the crap managers around. 2 or 3 solid players in and we should be fine again.

Looking forward to seeing how you guys go next season. Would imagine you will be looking to bring another 3 or 4 players in to strengthen the starting 11 before the end of the transfer window. Exciting times.

Hows that going for you? Still think the same?

Mark Hughes has done it the 'right' way at Stoke. He carried on playing the same style as Pulis for a while until he could get more skillful players in and start to play in his own style. They still have the ability to go long when needed, but with the likes of Jese, Shaqiri, Joe Allen and until recently Bojan, they are playing a better style of football.

The only chance FDB has is if he sacrifices his beliefs and goes back to the 'style' of play that Palace have been employing to get some results and then try and introduce some changes.

I doubt he'll be given the chance.

Surely all they've been missing this season is the manager dancing on the touchline ?

Maybe Alan could come back ?

A friend of mine who supports Palace tells me that FDB has left the club.

Loftus Cheek has just moved in near a friend of mine and told him FDB is actually a really good coach but the Palace players just aren't good enough to implement his ideas!!
