I'd say the best Aussie side would be about as good as Everton.
Goals Bosnich or Schwartzer
Full backs Brett Emerton and Alan Davidson (played for forest in the 80s)
Centre backs Lucas Neill Craig Moore
Centre mids Mark Bresciano Mike Jedinak
Wide men Harry Kewell Craig Johnston
Viduka and Tim Cahill up front

I think that is a decent starting XI, they'd all be wearing Predator boots though. Not sure how mobile Viduka would be now, he had the turning circle of an oil tanker when he was playing.

Stan Lazaridis..... i think he was an Aussie

Top player. In fact one of my claims to fame (ish) is playing against him when he was at Floreat. They played at the velodrome, built for the Commonwealth Games, in 62 I think. Which is probably where he got his close ball control from. A very tight pitch, with predictably steep sides. Lovely guy.

Cahil was very good. Kewell and Viduka on their day but bit hit and miss. Other than that it's keepers like Schwarzer and Bosnich really. Plenty of 'Middlesbourgh' types over the years I'd say but Everton would be ambitious.

This new keeper could make a good boxer if football doesn't work out.

Based on his highlights clips on crosses
