He uses wood chunks in the vid, which i use when cooking indirect, but for this fuse type of smoking i prefer wood chips.

I also curl tinfoil in an ark on the inside of the briquettes, this also holds the chips in place a lot better. i soak the chips for half hour before cooking then drain them in a sieve, this keeps them smoking longer.
