So Trump has been invited to a meeting with the leader of North Korea.Truly amazing.Where others like Obama have failed,Trump looks like he could be onto something. However the Trump haters will continue to hate.

Hopefully the date of this meeting will be publicised well in advance so that we can all make arrangements for fallout shelters in the event it all goes a bit tits up.

I don't hate him but he is an absolute disgrace as a President. However, having them talk is better than all the willy waving we have had to put up with although I fear Kim will play hardball with Trump and tie him in knots.

Is it better to have a President who is a 'disgrace' but gets the economy going, sorts out NK,and makes a difference in other areas or better to have a PC President who isn't as effective?

I think he's a long way from 'sorting out' NK. You don't even know what they are going to discuss, let alone whether it goes anywhere.

Should I like Adolph because he agreed to meet Chamberlain.

You don't have to like him.You just have to give credit where credit is due.

You've taken my post out of context.

Oh, good point... lets have Jeremy Clarkson as PM then, we won't worry about who he insults or alienates just so long as he does some good things...

It's certainly been an impressive 48 hours for Trump, even by his standards. First he gets sued by a pornstar, then he signs his metal and aluminium tariffs likely starting an international trade war then the North Koreans ask for face to face talks.

The first story is funny(and depressing).

The second is economically worrying.

The third is intriguing. Are the North Koreans climbing down in the face of Trumps heavy pressure or has Trump's bellicose rhetoric given the Koreans the excuse to push through with their nuclear testing to a point that they now feel they can meet the U.S from a position of strength. I'd dearly love to be a fly on the wall in that meeting. Hopefully Trump will live tweet it...

IMO Trump is a strange person. Obviously self-obsessed and proabably slightly delusional.

However, what so many seem to not comprehend is he is the result of the failure of politics. Trump, Brexit, Italy, AfD, Austria, Le Pen, etc. I realise that it’s not something many want to countenance, but the fact is there a huge numbers of people in first-world countries who have lost interest in politics and politicians.

Why? Well, they don’t answer the f*cking question and they look out for themselves. So, along comes someone like Trump and wins (against all the odds and contrary to what so many people on here thought would happen). These same people keep on that he’s going to be impeached “any time now”, yet the view on that seems to be weakening. Yes, it may happen, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see him serve 2 terms. His supporters see someone who is not a real politician and feel as though they can relate to him more than someone like Obama who is smooth and polished, but actually achieved very little.

His supporters seem to be firmly behind him, and, although they don’t approve of some of what he does, seem to be still backing him and the Republican Party are also less hostile.

Look at the politicians in this country. What a pathetic bunch. I listened to May on the news a few weeks ago answering questions on something (can’t remember what), and she repeated the same sound bites to every frigging question. Corbyn wants to make out he’s a principled person, but he’s been anti the EU for all his time in parliament, now because he senses he can inflict some pain on the Tories, he’s OK about staying in the single market (which goes against the Brexit vote as it was clear that free movement would end) and he also wants the option to support industry (but again, this is banned buy the EU single market).

Maybe we get the politicians we deserve eh! They’re all frigging crap and are out for themselves.

It's almost as if someone has made Trump realise that this is his time. If he wants to act, he needs to act. Maybe he reached the "Let Bartlet be Bartlet" episode of his West Wing boxset and thought - right, this is more important than re-election.

His comments about the NRA and gun control are exactly what he was threatening during his horrible campaign, he wouldn't bowdown to anyone, he would do what he wanted to. He spoke very well on that issue recently.

And now he's trying to get North Korea to enter serious talks about denucleurisation. If he wants his legacy to be doing whatever he wants to and to hell with the consequences, he should go all out. He's the President of the United States. In my opinion, it's a disgrace to American history that he is but ultimately, this is his time. He has the power to do some real good.
