"UK drivers who are caught by speed cameras, exceeding the speed limit in European countries, could face up to £640 fines in the new plans.

Member states have been given new powers to track down UK motorists and hand them fines.

The EU directive will cover eight motoring offences including speeding, not wearing a seatbelt, and using a phone while driving.

Due to a legal quirk however, European drivers caught speeding on UK roads cannot be pursued by British police.

European countries will be able to obtain drivers’ details through the DVLA database."

Just a heads up!

One suspects there is a deliberate miss-wording by the publication that put that out. Just to give the tiny impression they are out to get us.

Daily Express, perhaps ?

They won't however have ''Jurisdiction'' to collect the fines if people refuse to pay them

The European Court of Justice begs to differ :moo:

Do you really think they are going to be taking Extradition Procedures for a £640 speeding fine. I very much doubt it. And who is to say that after Brexit the UK Citizens will be governed by them. I was and am very much ANTI Brexit because these are the sort of issues which will cause consternation.

Even at the moment here in the UK. HMRC find it extremely difficult to chase up unpaid taxes for taxpayers who have moved out of the UK back to their countries of origin. There was one footballer in particular who left the UK away back in the early 2000s and HMRC still can't get what he owes them and he isn't all that far away from them in another EU country.
