Got my wife "the affair" not expecting to enjoy it but it has proved to be very good so far. If you are in to a more macho series try Sons of anarchy which I loved. I also enjoyed lots of the other series mentioned on here.

I enjoyed Sons Of Anarchy myself. although the idea that you can wipe out half a dozen people in a drive by shooting in a town no bigger than Peacehaven and the old bill bearly bat an an eyelid was a bit puzzling
