Hence why May and the educated Conservative party, not the day dream believers that think that we could have 10000 extra police for £300000 over four years or was that £80M for a 100000 officers per year or was that let 10000 immigrants in per year or was that nearly 2 million in Blairs time (anyway) that's why she has gone for the election now, despite the noise, she will have her majority....btw for the record,on face value i agree, pensioners are being hit hard, many however can more than afford to get by...

But it's not about whether they can afford it, what will frustrate them is that through no fault of their own, ie getting dementia, their families will lose their inheritance, albeit except for £100,000.

Not a dig at you
But 12 people have thumbed you up because there is another political thread and they are fed up with reading it.

Does anyone else see the irony of choosing to open a political thread that you didnt want to read in the first place

What, you mean free health care for all, free education for all, free school meals, free heating subsidies for the elderly, free infrastructure to support our econonmy...That sort of thing? Because with the Tory's in power, these are going to be very real questions.

When May can make a speech like this I will buy the idea of her 'leadership': https://twitter.com/liamyoung/status/866048543873748992
She is too scared to talk to real people. And when she does try - she is exposed.
Think for yourself people, don't just passively swallow the Mail/Sun bullshit

I wouldn't disrespect anyone for voting Labour, Green, Liberal Democratic or anyone else nor would I get over aggressive with them on social media, why does it seem that many Labour/Greens voters verbally attack anyone who doesn't share their view, I'm fully expecting Kirby to lose his seat and await the usual People Republic of Brighton bullshit to follow!

And of course none of the Tory supporters ever sink so low.

Also can someone please explain how Nationalisation of the railways will be a benefit.

I read Corbyn expects fares to fall by 10% if nationalised...............ummm 10%.....is that it?

Funny comment in a thread full of Conservatives insulting/patronising anyone who doesn't share their views.

Glad to be of service. El Presidente has many fine qualities and predilections voting Tory might be a step too far though.

Oi. I live in the Tatton constituency. We've had great Conservative MP's in the past such as Neil Hamilton and George Osborne.

I see on the BBC website today that over 2 million people have registered to vote in the last month alone.

And that is just in Tower Hamlets...

Means testing is superficially attractive. Obviously there seems little benefit in giving additional payments to those that don't need it. But it is complex and expensive tro administer and all exerience shows that, for various reasons, it means that many of those that do need it will end up missing out.
Explained here in the Telegraph:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/...be-disastrous-for-millions-of-pensioners.html

My understanding is that of the 11 million currently qualified, about two million will not meet means testing (source: heard on radio and half remembered - so could be wrong). We will be creating a massive body of red tape, not getting the outcome we want anyway and saving relatively litlle (taking cost of testing into account).

It is far better to simply provide universal support (as with health and education) and then ensure that those with greater means pay more via the tax system. Which is exactly what Labour is proposing.

Maybe ask a German?

Given how much I pay - 10% would be quite significant

In 2003 we had to sell my nans house to fund her stay in a decent care home. When she died my mum and dad were left with £ 20k.
My other Nan is currently in her second year in a care home in East Preston which was funded from the sale of her flat in Findon in 2015.

Different governments, same shit elderly care!

I was hoping for at least a 80% reduction in fares
You would get your initial 10% reduction, but in a few years your fares would increase due to inflation back to normal full levels.

what is the point of following that daft policy

Who knows, but I can't see why they would rise? The government would become directly accountable for fare prices, and quality of service to the people that elect them. Unlike now, when they can simply shrug about Southern Rail and say 'we know it's crap but what can we do?'

Rail services are public services. They need to be treated as such and not as a profit making opportunity for (often foreign) companies.

Maybe because otherwise they'd be 10% plus compound higher?

Anyway its about ideology - just like tories punishing the disabled and the elderly for being under productive and unaffordable
