yeah, except its not right. the stated aims of socialism are government or other social ownership of the means of production and redistribution of wealth. see Venezuela for a fine example of socialism in action.

I'd rather take my chances with that than a very small minority of morally bankrupt scumbags keeping it to themselves, whilst the majority of the population suffer as a result.

Venezuela's very poorest have lost about 19 pounds in weight on average in the last year. Inflation is expected to reach 2000% and Maduro's answer to this is complete oppression and the suspension of any semblance of democracy. The government have killed 37 protestors since the beginning of April and imprisoned 2000 more. The carcasses of cats, dogs, anteaters and flamingos are being found around the country as some Venezuelans are taking to eating them in desperation. Remember that this was South America's richest country in 2001. They've almost run out of money now.

Socialism. It's all a bit shit really.

The word has developed, when we say socialism (the younger generation, at least) we mean democratic socialism such as the system seen in Norway, Finland, the Netherlands etc - you know, the best countries in the world.

Haha! They are not socialist. To be socialist they would need to have a substantial part of their means of production in public hands and significant government intervention in the markets, They're not. They have a free market economy just like us but they tax higher and spend more on public services. All those countries are amongst the top countries in rankings of how easy it is to do business - in other words how free their market is. http://www.doingbusiness.org/rankings

Left wing childish insult alert.

Eh? A lot of them are though. I'm sure some wouldn't even care admitting it!

If me pointing it out makes me left wing and childish in your book then I couldn't really give a shit to be honest! I'd rather be labled that than someone who lives in delusion of grandeur!

This is truly pathetic. Might as well argue that any future government to the right of centre will start exterminating millions of people because that is what happened in Nazi Germany...

JC wants free education and free parking at hospitals. May wants to hunt foxes and make the rich richer. It's such a tough call...

JC promises everything for everyone.....I`d like everything........Someone has to pay however....if Corbyn delivers, within very short time business/Rich will be in terminal decline or moving abroad....Then where will the billions come from ??

People who believe it`s possible are living like JC in fantasy land.

I would like to see these policies implemented but it's a gamble, the real trouble though lies in the fact that the alternative to Labour are so unelectable as they have actually proved over the past few years.

its great to promise everything to win votes but we have to pay for it in the end and just remember what happened next no money left, yes I want more money for schools and the NHS but let's build a strong encomny but stop slating pepole who start business and provide jobs, I don't mean the companies that dodge paying tax. let's not go back to the old socialist ways. We have a great chance to rebalance the north south divide and give everyone a better standard of living. Please don't return to the 70s sick man of Europe. Strikes strikes and more strikes.
It will be the ordinary working families who will suffer as usual.

Venezuela has had a split economy since 1920. Depending heavily on oil exports to buy in goods, the Government failed to diversify into the Venezuelan economy. The oil industry owners and workers made mega bucks and invested abroad. The poor benefited slightly whilst oil exports poured money into the country. Now there is little oil revenue the rich have their assets abroad to live from and the rest have a peso (I think) that has been devalued to virtually nothing. There is limited food production in Venezuela and little industry due to this limited domestic investment.
I'd put the blame on Capitalism and short term profit from oil that did not allow Venezuela to form an independent economic infrastructure. That's what I heard on Insight BBC World Service at 3am this morning anyway.

Edited Bolivar not Peso.

I believe it is possible and sincerely hope I see it in my lifetime.

And you don't think that 'ordinary' working families as they so nicely put it, are not struggling at the moment.
Nationalised industries were not well run in the 70's I admit, I was there, but that was a long time ago, times have changed, there are many nationalised industries in Europe and around the world that work fine and people are actually proud of them.
Why keep croaking on about the bad old days and actually consider that it may work if run properly, privatisation definitely has not worked, the railways and utilities are and expensive, confusing, mess, let's have more of that shall we.

That's a bold move. First post in and you invoke Godwin's Law. If the Nazi model had been held up as the perfect way to run a country by a democratic right of centre party you'd be spot on. 10 years ago Venezuela was being feted by left of centre politicians, newspapers and film stars as the template for democratic socialism in the 21st century. Socialism in Venezuela is failing and it's brought the country to the brink of disaster. Even Chomsky admits that.

Replacing the social housing that's been sold off, re-nationalising the railways and royal mail, investing in the NHS - These are not the policies of a far left loon, maybe people will see through Corbyn's media portrayal, maybe not though.

It would (will) astonish me that anyone living in Brighton would think the bringing the railways back in to public ownership isn't a good idea.
