At least the conurbation has three parties competing for seats, unlike most cities in the UK. The 2015 votes cast were:

Tory 52,000
Lab 55,000
Green 29,000

I like that, rather the predictable red or blue carve up in most other urban areas.

Same with the council, meaning that these days one party doesn't dominate. But at that local level, it means much animosity between the Greens and Labour who can't stand each other.

Seems you have two choices

1/ Make the most of the free education, health and state support you've enjoyed for the last 50 odd years and try to make a better life for yourself (which may mean working hard and not constantly whining about people who are working harder to make the most of their opportunities)

2/ Go somewhere else and make the most of the opportunities there (although you may find the change of culture, language and weather a little challenging !)

But I'll guess you'll go for option 3. Carry on taking and moaning that everyone else is taking what's rightfully yours

I can't see any of these seats changing hands at the election. Lucas is nailed on to win and just my opinion but both Kyle and Kirby have done pretty well as local MPs. I've been especially impressed with Kyle.

Whilst greens have stood back in kemptown so have ukip who came third last time (greens 4th) so assuming all ukip go tory then it strengthens kirbys position. If he loses from that it will be because a lot of locals have lost faith in him - hes invisible!

I don't disagree with many things you've said of late, but a genuine question as I don't know, has Kirby done well?

As with all Sussex MP's he quite rightly stood up for the victims of the Southern rail dispute. But I know that he's sided with all nimby groups in his geographically-wide constituency opposing every proposed housing scheme under the sun.

Apart from that, he's not been a Grandstander like Kyle and Lucas. In marginals, I wonder if you have to be a noisy MP to get your name out there?

Invisible? I don't even know who the Labour candidate is in Kemptown. Fortunately, I don't care either. Kirby will be getting my vote again.

Reading that and ROSM's comments, I wonder if he focuses on the Kemptown area and doesn't much bother with the 'burbs other than to go along with the nimbys. I'm only going from what friends have told me about his work for the gay community.
