Ah, but by my logic the FA trophy winners would have to also be the team gaining automatic promotion from the confrence making league team number 17. The Vase is only for teams step 5 (Sussex County) and below therefore not relevant to this discussion

Everton reached the FA Cup final in 2009 and lost to Chelsea. And lost the SF last season.

indeed it has turned full circle

now if you haven't played at wembley it's a good thing

i.e.

don't take the FA Cup seriously

don't need the play offs for promotion
